The Duchess of Sussex's highly anticipated bridal look, revealed
After much speculation, the designer of her wedding gown is revealed as she exited the car at the Windsor Castle for the ceremony, and it's none other than Clare Waight Keller, the Artistic Director of Givenchy. In a statement released by the Kensington Palace, Meghan picked the designer for her "elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour", and it certainly reflected in the minimalist pure white gown. Featuring a boat neck that frames the shoulders, sculpted waist and three-quarter sleeves, the custom-made dress is made of "double-bonded silk cady cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza."
Following in her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton's footsteps, Meghan accessorised her chic bridal updo with a shiny tiara—the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau—borrowed straight from Queen Elizabeth's jewellery vault. Previously belonged to the wife of King George V, Queen Mary, from luxury London jeweller Garrard back in 1925, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, and Princess Margaret have both worn the tiara in the past.
The earrings and bracelet:
Aside from the tiara, the new Duchess of Essex adorned her wedding ensemble with a pair of diamond stud earrings and a diamond bracelet from Cartier.
Clearly opting for the traditional route, Meghan Markle's five-metre-long cathedral-length veil is not as simple as it seems. The silk tulle headpiece is made of hand embroidered flowers from "each of the 53 counties in the Commonwealth in threads and organza", and personal touches such as the Wintersweet flower—found in the grounds of Kensington Palace, and the California Poppy which is California's State flower. The intricate veil took hundreds of hours to sew.
Made by Cleave and Company (that also made Meghan's engagement ring in 2017), the princess' wedding band is made from a piece of Welsh gold which was given to her by Queen Elizabeth as a gift. The royal family has been using this gold since the Queen's mother's wedding in 1923.
Meghan Markle choice of footwear? A pair of Manolo Blahnik BBs, in white of course. The brand has been one of the princess' favourites, as she has been spotted in the pumps often.
