New month, new bags: May’21 edition—from Valentino, Kate Spade New York, and more

With the SS21 season coming to an end soon, our roundup this month includes a mix of Summer 2021 and Pre-Fall 2021 drops that’ll let you give your wardrobe that mid-year update.

Below, new bags from Valentino, Kate Spade New York, Coach, Burberry, and Dior:

Valentino Garavani Rockstud Alcove bag

Following the successful launch of the Valentino Garavani Roman Stud bag in SS21, for Pre-Fall 2021, the Italian fashion house is shining the spotlight on the next It-bag in the making: the Rockstud Alcove bag.

Introduced in micro to medium sizes, the top-handle carrier’s key details are the fully studded VLogo Signature and the two twist-lock closures on both sides. Open the bag and you’ll be captivated by the brand’s signature red nappa lining and the array of compartments that keep your knick-knacks organised. Each piece requires six hours, two leather types, and a total of 98 pieces to assemble.

Kate Spade New York’s Summer 2021 collection

Kate Spade New York has re-released its well-loved Sam bag—first introduced in 1993—for Summer 2021, and this round, aside from the style update, the pieces were also designed with sustainability in mind.

Dubbed The Little Better Nylon, the collection is crafted from recycled materials in the shell and the lining. The offerings this season include one in sweet bubblegum pink, and classic prints such as stripes and polka-dots. Another version in a shoulder bag silhouette is also available.

Coach Ergo bag

Shopping for a roomy bag that isn’t a tote or a backpack? The Coach Ergo bag might just be the one. A hobo silhouette that was first unveiled in the ‘90s, the carrier is one of the many archival-inspired designs that were revived this season.

Crafted in glove-tanned leather, the Ergo comes in two sizes (25 and 33), and the bigger one, in particular, is big enough to fit your 15-inch laptop and more. Whether you’d like to carry it on one shoulder or sling it across, the wide, adjustable strap will ensure comfort.

Burberry Soft Pocket tote

The Pocket bag has been one of Burberry’s most popular designs since it made its debut during Spring/Summer 2020. Fast forward a year later, the brand is adding a new iteration to the mix, and it’s called the Soft Pocket Tote.

Like its predecessor, the carrier is characterised by the flat front pocket and the cut-out top handle, but the fresh addition features an archival trapeze shape that gives the piece a roomier finish. Every piece is made using Italian-tanned topstitched leather and embossed with the House logo.

Dior’s Lady Dior and Lady D-Lite bags

Dior’s Lady Dior bag needs no introduction, but this season, the arm candies are back on our radar as they’ve been given an eye-catching update. From striking animal motifs to the brightest shades, both the Lady Dior and the Lady D-Lite bags are emblazoned in prints and hues that elevate the designs to new heights. And after a year of pandemic dressing, the only way to go is bold.
