MFW SS16: Emporio Armani

A subtle feminine shift

Emporio Armani's summery confection of pinks and sheer organza made for an interesting change from the label's trademark aesthetic.

Giorgio Armani has always dabbled in the intermeshing of masculine and feminine elements for Emporio Armani, but S/S'16 saw a shift in direction in his inspiration, welcoming a decidedly more feminine aesthetic with "subtle grace" that had modern notions to it.

Case in point: smiley emoticons on cropped tops, sheer organza for movement, coupled with a few floral appliqués here and there, entirely on a palette of faded pink, orange, rust and gray. But there always needs to be a sense of practicality at Emporio Armani, palpable with languid trousers, relaxed blazers, leather-trimmed jackets and a new hybrid form of breeches with calf-length fastenings.

It was girly enough to prove a subtle drift from the original Emporio Armani signature, given that the collection was one part feminine, three parts real-world chic.
