The best of PFW AW19 day 8: Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu

Who: Fashion darling Cara Delevingne opens Karl Lagerfeld’s final Chanel show while brand ambassador Penelope Cruz makes a runway appearance.

Where: It’s thrilling to see what the team at Chanel transform the Grand Palais into every fashion season. In what has come to be Lagerfeld’s swan song, show guests were transported to a winter retreat high up the mountains and piles of snow among wooden chalets.

The low-down: Think ski chic with a bit of sass. The opening look — a tweed chequered jumpsuit with an ultra low neckline paired with a houndstooth coat accessorised with a matching chequered fedora. It’s very 1970s American Gangster meets skiing at the Alps. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen ‘the 70s back in swing this season, and TBH, we totally dig it. The usual control and restrain with colours spoke true to Lagerfeld’s personal style. The look with the ruffled white shirt, patent leather pants and chain belt was a wondrous homage to Lagerfeld’s iconic uniform.

Buro loves: The statement cable car bags and surprisingly, the furry boots. Show’s how a loop of gold and a pretty little bow can go a long way.

Louis Vuitton

Who: Emma Stone, Indya Moore and the Smith siblings, Jaden and Willow repped the brand well in Louis Vuitton. One to watch Naomi Scott, who plays Princess Jasmine in the upcoming reprise of Aladdin was spotted, too.

Where: Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière hosted the show in the Louvre where he recreated another museum in Paris, the Centre Pompidou – how meta is this?!

The low-down: And the statement shoulder continues. After releasing futuristic looks with space-themed cadet suits for Spring/Summer 2019, Louis Vuitton continues to design for the forward thinkers. The overall collection is innovative and modern but with lilting hint of nostalgia. Quilted puffer jackets, leather skull caps and Edwardian collars play on that contrast.

Buro loves: We’re all for clashing prints and colour palette overload. If this is what the future looks like, we’re game.

Miu Miu

Who: Young Hollywood steps to the scene. Blossoming thespians Elle Fanning, Amandla Stenberg, Thomasin McKenzie and Eliza Scanlen took five from for a night of fashion fun.

The low-down: Not all heroes wear capes but the ones at Miu Miu definitely do. Miuccia Prada reveals to WWD, “The capes are historical, a reference to the past and the future…an invitation to take care of human life…and the environment.” On that note, camouflage print seen throughout the collection from button-down coats to trousers and lace-up boots also connect to nature and more interestingly “a symbol of rebellion” to Prada. With Earth month coming up in April, Miu Miu is gearing us up to be the strong eco-warrior.

Buro loves: The flouncy satin skirts Cyndi Lauper would love — girls just wanna have fun(ds)!
