Retaining her signature prints and oversized silhouettes, Stella Jean SS16 was inspired by a journey, an ‘exodus of the Italian migrant’, with Italy as the port of departure.
Vivid colours were further enhanced by multi-tiered flounces and raffia ruffles, accessorised with handmade papier-mâché visors (made in Haiti by the artist Moro Baruk), and metal earcuffs in the shape of tree frogs and macaws, further invoking a sense of the exotic—wherever life may take the Stella Jean girl.
The show closed with a collection of ’50s-inspired swimwear—bikini tops paired with high-waisted bottoms, some worn with a ruffled belt around the waist.
