Suffice with stripes

MFW SS16: Missoni

The thing with Missoni, which also makes it Missoni, is that you can never fail to find anything colourfully zigzag printed or knit-based on one piece or another. And for some, perhaps that’s a good thing, especially to stay within the safe territory of churning the signature aesthetic that the Italian label is built upon.

But S/S’16 saw a slight shift in that sense by elevating it and making it simpler (ironically), while, of course, retaining those classic two elements. With long knitwear everything and a few swimwear pieces that looked like it was made for a luxurious getaway at Capri, the collection composed of loud prints, bright hues, and a more conspicuous element: stripes.

To say that stripes were an abundance is an understatement. There were stripes on knit dresses, palazzo pants, gauzy kaftans, patent leather shoes, and then some. It was altogether a basic, languidly stately collection—something one can be decked in on a private yacht in Naples while sipping on a glass of Brunello di Montalcino.
