What we got our eyes on from the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2019 collection

Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière stirred up quite the buzz when the star-studded lookbook for Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection dropped into view earlier this year. Seventeen power women in the entertainment industry including the likes of Alicia Vikander, Sophie Turner, Chloë Grace Moretz, Ruth Negga, Thandie Newton and Indya Moore were photographed looking strong, loud and proud. Each piece of clothing was chosen by stylist, Marie-Amélie Sauvé to reflect the ladies’ personalities without forgetting the fashion identity of the French Maison.

Such a powerful statement. If clothes could talk, every look from the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2019 collection would reveal the same willpower and confidence of these women. Held at One Bangkok, the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2019 presentation was a chance to see Ghesquière’s as well as Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh‘s creative vision up-close, and needless to say, it was an enjoyable afternoon.

Embracing eclecticism

Ghesquière’s sci-fi theme is translated into details such as exaggerated shoulders, button detailing and slick graphics this season, elevated further with a play of juxtaposition. Think sequinned bomber jacket layered over a floral dress and matching satin trousers; and a plaid-on-stripes-on-leopard triple-print look. While eclecticism is fully embraced in the collection, the designer didn’t forget to finish off with a dose of femininity, whether it’s delicate lace, plunging neckline for a flaunt of decollétage and belted silhouettes. The hint of rustic vibe is a prelude to what the autumnal atmosphere will bring.

Carrying a legacy

Louis Vuitton’s leather goods have always been some of the most sought-after pieces each season, and it’s not hard to understand why. Some of our picks from Pre-Fall’19 include the street-style favourite Petite Boite Chapeau, and the Cannes bag that was inspired by the House’s iconic Cannes beauty case. If you’d like to make a statement while looking polished, that’s the bag for you. On the other hand, if you’d like to take your love for the brand’s iconic monogram to new heights (or size, in this case), the brand has introduced the Monogram Giant with a supersized pattern. The print – both big and small – also covers the body and handles of their signature Neverfull, On the Go and Néonoé bags, giving them that trendy update.

Man up

For Pre-Fall 2019, Virgil Abloh plays up the boyhood theme. Taking inspo from the elements of protective clothing, he fuses it with the role they play in a man’s early life. There’s a utility approach when it comes to the designs—silhouettes and shapes pay homage to the Japanese culture where uniformed workers, outdoor pursuits and sports take centre stage.

Some of our favourites from Louis Vuitton Men’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection? The outerwear and the accessories, hands down. The harness-over-tailored-suit pairing, in particular, has landed many A-listers, including Timothée Chalamet, Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, on different best-dressed lists. To accompany the modern looks, are a selection of carriers such as the Flat Tote, Chalk backpack and Soft Trunk, as well as lust-worthy footwear from sneaker-boot to the LV Runners. They’ll be a street-style hit, for sure.

Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2019 collection is available in stores from June 2019 onwards.
