Style crush: Blake Lively and her love for suits
Blake Lively has been wearing nothing but power suits the entire week. It all started in New York with a neon green pantsuit hot (fresh off Versace Spring 2019 Men's runway), followed by a lush velvet number in deep turquoise by Marla Aaron. The star opted out of a shirt under the waistcoat and accessorised the plunging neckline with layered jewellery by Ara Vartanian. "A necklace counts as a shirt, right?", she joked on Instagram. The next day, she donned an oversized multicoloured chequered suit by Roland Mouret, complete with another joke comparing herself to a picnic. Blake balanced her flashy suited up looks with a pinstriped three-piece Zimmerman ensemble and an all-white getup by Ralph & Russo for MTV Video Music Awards 2018 and continued her suit-only attire at the after party in a casual set with sparkly shoes. Blake doesn't discriminate against hemlines, she opted for a kaleidoscope print shorts suit by Bottega Venetta, too.
So what's behind this newfound aesthetic? Does it have something to do with it being her birthday week and is this her definition of the 'birthday suit'? Or is she borrowing her strong character from A Simple Favour's style during its promotional tour? In the film she plays Emily Nelson, a magnetic yet mysterious woman strictly dressed in immaculate power pantsuits and from the trailer we know her character suddenly disappears. If you take a peek at Blake Lively's Instagram, you'll notice that she currently only follows three profiles: Her husband Ryan Reynolds, Humans of New York and Emily Nelson. Creepy, but intriguing. We do know one thing though, we can't wait to see the rest of her suited up looks she has up her sleeve.
