More is more: An ode to maximalism

A scroll through your social media feed and you’ll notice the abundance of clean and crisp all-white #OOTDs against marble or tiled backgrounds, and frankly, we’d be the first to admit that we are fans of the minimalist movement. I mean, what’s not to like about an easy-on-the-eyes ensemble that is polished, stylish AND effortless in one? However, as always in fashion, there’s been a shift in the wind recently; it’s time to steer clear from the less-is-more aesthetic by taking your style to new heights—it’s all about breaking the rules and embracing flamboyance. Why go for simplicity when you could be big, bold and beautiful?

Move on from the neutral hues and streamlined silhouettes for notice-me embellishment and bold clashes with these few tips:

Mix it up (without matching)

From colours and textures to prints, it’s all about going bold (or go home), and one thing’s for sure: experiment is key. If you’d like to pair a ditsy floral piece with supersized blooms, wear them in punchy hues; if you feel like staying monochrome, incorporate textures such as fringes, mesh and leather into your look to spice things up. Alternatively, if prints and embellishment are not your thing, opt for trendy ruffles, strong shoulders and eye-catching flares for your day about town. It’s all about amplifying your style when you’re unleashing your inner maximalist.

Accessorising is key

Sometimes, the smaller details speak the louder words. Take a style cue from Chiara below who tuned up her laidback sweater-and-skirt get-up by stacking up the necklaces and bracelets, or the festival goer who completed her vintage boho look with tinted sunglasses, cute pom-pom earrings and the back-in-trend fanny packs. Three words: pile them up.

Go XXL

The simplest way to take statement dressing one step further is by tuning up the volume of a certain style or trend that you already like. Fancy pom-poms? Go for a sweater with larger-than-life details. Statement sleeves are your thing? Try power shoulders while you’re at it. The key is to keep things proportionate and you’re good to go. As long as you feel comfortable with what you already have in your closet, taking it to greater heights is no sweat.
