Blackpink’s Jisoo launches her solo label and more K-pop news

This month in K-pop, we gather some of the most buzz-worthy comebacks, from Le Sserafim’s self-empowerment album Easy to IU’s long-awaited EP, The Winning. Further, Blackpink members continue to make strides in their solo career with exciting projects lined up. Ahead, get up to speed on the biggest K-pop news you might have missed.

Yugyeom wants 1 Minute of your time 

Got7’s youngest member, Yugyeom, is back with his latest full-length album, Trust Me! On February 21, the singer dropped the music video for 1 Minute, one of his double title tracks for the album alongside La Sol Mi released in January. Written by Gray, and composed by Yugyeom and Gray, 1 Minute exudes a smooth and groovy hip-hop tune with a catchy hook that perfectly showcases Yugyeom’s charm and effortless dancing style. Jisoo launches her agency, Blissoo, for her solo activities

Following in the footsteps of her Blackpink bandmates Jennie and Lisa, Jisoo has officially announced the launch of her label for her solo works. Named Blissoo, the singer took to her personal Instagram account to share, “I’m excited to share my new start with Blissoo. Stay tuned for what’s to come, as I’m dedicated to bringing joy and happiness to each and every one of you.” 

The captions also reveal Blissoo’s purpose: “Transcending the boundaries of genres and fields, our  mission is to share the happiness that Jisoo creates in her own unique way.” Congratulations, Jisoo!

IU is taking all the Ws with her newest EP, The Winning

2024 is looking to be IU’s year! After her stunning pre-release track, Love Wins All which features BTS’ V, the multi-talented singer has returned with new music after three years with her latest EP, The Winning on 20 February. The body of work features double title tracks, Holssi and Shopper.

The former is a cool percussive-led melody that talks about living free like a dandelion seed whilst the latter is a whimsical pop ballad that showcases IU’s impressive vocal range. Fans could not be more excited to see her perform her newest songs for her upcoming world tour. Listen to The Winning below.

Bibi is sweet like candy in Sugar Rush music video

After her dark hit Bibi Vengeance and her jazzy single Hongdae R&B, solo artist Bibi shows off her versatility once again in her latest single, Sugar Rush. Released on 20 February, the English song features a low-synth trap baseline and Bibi’s honey-like vocals with her melodious rapping taking centre stage. To amp up the sweetness, the music video even features (G)i-dle’s Soyeon and soloist Yena as extra eye candy!

Le Sserafim makes their latest comeback look Easy 

Never one to miss, Le Sserafim’s highly-awaited comeback on 19 February caused K-pop social media to turn into a frenzy with the drop of their third EP and title track of the same name. Within its release, Easy shot to number one on the iTunes Top Albums charts in 18 countries and peaked at number two in the US. Their comeback has only increased the anticipation for the girl group’s debut performance at Coachella 2024 this April. Listen to the full EP below.

Lisa to make her acting debut in The White Lotus Season 3

More exciting news for Blinks! Lisa will be the third member (after Jisoo and Jennie) to show off her acting chops soon. On 13 February, it was officially announced that the K-pop superstar will join the cast for the third instalment of HBO’s award-winning and critically acclaimed show, The White Lotus. The series began production in Lisa’s home country this month and will see a new group of guests at another White Lotus hotel property. Blinks are excited to see what other solo projects are in store for Lisa after the artist announced the launch of her label, Lloud earlier this month.

Ten becomes a Nightwalker for his first solo EP

After debuting in SM Entertainment’s boy group NCT in 2016, Thai artist Ten finally released his solo self-titled body of work along with the music video for his lead track on 13 February. Titled Nightwalker, the mysterious pop dance song features a bass-heavy contraption accompanied by choir background vocals and rhythmical guitar riffs that perfectly embody Ten’s signature androgynous style and versatility.
