Shu Uemura collaborates with Super Mario on a holiday collection

Calling all beauty geeks and gamer girls—Shu Uemura’s Holiday Collection this year is one you absolutely want to snap up. The Japanese beauty company has teamed up with the game of our childhood era, Super Mario Bros. on a 17-product lineup featuring the cutest designs in all its 8-bit graphic glory. Slated for release on November 1, this collection is the first beauty collaboration for the Nintendo video game.

“This time we got inspiration from culture. Super Mario Bros. is one cultural aspect that is representative of Japan. It’s also really, really popular overseas. I looked at something behind the Super Mario Bros. game and I tried to find something in common between the video game and beauty. My point of view is that the Super Mario Bros. game is a really simple game. To achieve the goal you have to overcome some kinds of hazards, then finally you will get what you want,” said Kakuyasu Uchiide, international artistic director for Shu Uemura in an interview with WWD.

What to expect from this retro-leaning beauty lineup? Apart from Shu Uemura’s signature products that are reinterpreted in snazzy designs—including the Invincible Superstar Premium Curler and Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil, watch out for new additions that will pack a punch in your beauty bag. The Dual Stamp-Me Liner sports a felt-tip liner on one end, and a star-shaped stamp on the other end; while the Peach’s Eye and Cheek Palette is equipped with stunning hues ranging from orange and bronze to mauve and plum—the cheek colours are even stamped with graphics from the game!
