This is not a drill: Come the 22nd of April 2021, OleHenriksen will finally land exclusively in Sephora Malaysia nationwide. That’s right—the bright, colour-coded product lineup that has swept the hearts of North America is making its way to this neck of the world.

In case you’re not familiar, allow us to give you a little background. Inspired by its founder’s spa expertise and philosophy, each product is formulated with a simple functional routine in mind: Exfoliate, replenish, and transform. According to the brand, all skin has the potential to transform, and their potent (and vegan!) blends of rich botanicals, powerful actives, and essential fatty acids are here to get you there.

We spoke to the man himself, Ole Henriksen, to get the inside scoop on his cult-favourite brand, and to glean some of his best skincare recommendations.

The OleHenriksen brand has gone from strength to strength, garnering a keen celebrity following that includes the likes of Ashley Tisdale, Daniel Craig, Katy Perry, and Lisa Kudrow. What would you attribute your brand’s success to?

“We are blessed with an amazing team that works hard to create potent products that have transformational benefits. We are also lucky to have Sephora as a retail partner to support our expansion into new markets, like in Malaysia this coming April.”

The brand is due to arrive in this neck of the world soon. What drew you to the Malaysian market, and the South East Asian market as a whole?

“I have a strong affinity to the South East Asian region, especially having lived in Indonesia when I was younger and having travelled the different countries there, including Malaysia. I knew I always wanted to bring the OleHenriksen brand and #OleGlow to South East Asia and I’m so glad that it is finally happening! Although I’m devasted I won’t be able to travel for the launch.”

You hail from Denmark—has your culture influenced your beauty line in any way?

“Absolutely—Danes believe in less is more, so for me, it was important to not overcomplicate the formulation process and to create products that are simple to understand yet effective. And, of course, hygge—helping men and women find pleasure in the everyday things, including through their skincare routine.”

You are also a keen traveler. Is the inspiration behind some of your products derived from the places you have visited?

“Absolutely, my ingredients are sourced from the best places in the world. For example, the Rose of Winter Extract in our C-Rush™ Brightening Gel Crème is from Jeju Island in Korea. The Neem Seed Oil found in our BALANCE collection and the Bakuchiol (thought to be a plant-based alternative to retinol) found in our TRANSFORM PLUS collection are both legendary Ayurvedic ingredients found in India.”

How has your beauty line (and the industry as a whole) changed since you launched your namesake business in 1984?

“Cosmetic science has indeed evolved dramatically since I created my first products in the late 1970s. Since we live in a globalised world, one of the big changes is we have access to ingredients and supply chains all around the world. And very importantly, the way we formulate skincare products today allows for a much more advanced delivery system into the skin which, in essence, allows them to work on a deeper level. This is especially important for the development of anti-ageing products.”
