Power snacks for a mid-day energy boost

More often than not, it always comes to a point in the day where our focus wanders, drowsiness kicks in and working is just the last thing you want to do at the moment. In times like these, fight the fatigue with these easy-to-prep power snacks for a healthy pick-me-up:

1. Edamame

Rich in magnesium and B-vitamins, a single serving or half a cup of edamame gives you just the right nutrients to boost your energy and state of mind.  These delectable soybeans also deliver exercise-friendly carbs, fibre and protein for muscles, and serve as the perfect after lunch snack to convert eaten food into energy.

2. Protein bar

Great for pre- or post-workout snacking, protein bars also serve as an ideal between meal meal snack with their nutty goodness. When you’re looking for an office snack at the store, be sure to look out for the calories to keep it healthy, or alternatively you could always make your own. Try our DIY health tip recipe here.

3. Ants on a log

What it is: peanut butter spread on celery sticks with raisins sprinkled on top—yum! Replace peanut butter with cream cheese for a twist, or try dried cranberries instead of raisins, whichever tickles your fancy. A fun and easy-to-prep snack for your mid-day cravings, this snack is high in fibre, potassium, irons and calcium.

4. Trail mix

Like a deconstructed protein bar, trail mix provides you with essential fatty acids, protein, antioxidants, fibre and other nutrients that are great for your body. The classic trail mix consist of dried fruits and nuts, but we’d recommend adding some dark chocolate to the mix for an extra kick.

5. Yogurt parfait

A simple yet healthy snack to prepare, the yogurt parfait is a great dessert alternative to indulge in between your meals. Make your own with greek yogurt, granola, and your choice of sliced fresh berries. Add in a dash of honey if you like it a little sweeter.
