4 Cool fitness classes in New York that you can’t get in Malaysia

Whether you’re in New York for fashion week or a holiday, it’s no excuse to skip out on leg, arm or thigh day. On the contrary, visiting a foreign city presents the best opportunity to make working out more refreshing by visiting the local gyms or joining fitness classes that aren’t offered back home. We round up some of New York’s coolest and one-of-a-kind workouts to add to our list of gym classes we wish are here in Malaysia.

1. ModelFit’s classes

It’s no secret that Chrissy Teigen, Taylor Swift and Victoria’s Secret Models choose ModelFit as their go-to workout. The boutique gym offers three classes: Cardio Sculpt, Dance Cardio and Sculpt. They’re all full-body, low-impact workouts which focus a lot on slimming and toning while using props like ankle weights, Pilates rings, resistance bands, Bosu balls and free weights to target hard-to-reach areas like the underbutt and lower abs.

2. Box + Flow

The 50-minute class will see you starting off with a HIIT shadowbox warm-up before running through some moves and hitting the bags for a good 30 minutes before moving to the yoga mat for a 20-minute flow session. Essentially it’s a combination of anger management (or stress relief), therapy and fitness built into one class.

3. AKT’s classes

If you like workouts with some choreography built into it, AKT has a couple of dance-based or circuit-based interval training that combines yoga and cardio with strength training for a total body burn in one 60-minute jam session. Fun fact: Drew Barrymore’s fitness regime includes going to AKT.

4. Holy Water at TMPL

Remember Floatfit, the HIIT workout on water? TMPL, which has been dubbed New York’s most high-tech gym, has adapted the principles of it to create a class called Holy Water. Taking place in their beautiful 25m saltwater pool, participants will go through a series of yoga moves and various strength exercises while stabilising on the board. Dare you take up the challenge?
