Justin Baldoni granted access to Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s texts

Just when you think Taylor Swift can be finally excluded from the narrative, another plot twist hits the Lively-Baldoni legal drama. On Wednesday, US District Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Baldoni’s team can now gain access to texts between Lively and Swift. The decision came after Baldoni’s attempt at subpoeaning Swift was dismissed earlier this month. His $400 million counter lawsuit against Lively was also thrown out as the judge found that accusations of sexual harassment against the It Ends With Us director were legally protected and immune from the suit. So, what changed?

“Lively herself has identified Swift as someone likely to have knowledge about complaints or discussions regarding the working environment on the set of It Ends With Us,” Liman addressed in his decision. “Given that Lively has represented that Swift had knowledge of complaints or discussions about the working environment…the requests for messages with Swift regarding the film and this action are reasonably tailored to discover information that would prove or disprove Lively’s harassment and retaliation claims.”

He goes on to say that Baldoni’s legal team will only have access to text messages relevant to the case and not the entirety of their correspondence history. Anything else that is discovered during the process may not be leaked to the press or addressed in court. Currently, the entirety of Baldoni’s lawsuit is dismissed, but the actor and director is allowed to amend and refile his lawsuit with regard to interference with contracts. Just last week, Lively dropped two claims from her lawsuit against him, which included “intentional infliction of emotional distress” and “negligent infliction of emotional distress.”

It’s a love story with a happy ending—Taylor Swift now owns all her masters! The pop megastar announced that her “greatest dream” came true as she successfully bought back the masters to her entire music catalogue.

“All of the music I’ve ever made now belongs to me… Every single era. My entire life’s work…The passionate support you showed these albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music,” Swift said in a letter on her website.

This news comes following years of dispute between her and former manager Scooter Braun after the entrepreneur sold her masters to Shamrock Holdings for $300 million in 2019. Swift began re-recording her albums to regain ownership and control over her older music, which she called Taylor’s Version. Now, you can listen to all of her music guilt-free!
