Wrist companions to help you keep track of lockdown time ft. Gucci, Bvlgari and more

Happy Mon––wait, how is it already the beginning of another week and the middle of August? With the never-ending extension of NRP (formerly MCO), our days seem to blend together as the sameness of staying at home starts to warp our perception of time. Routine is by no means easy in the socially distant worlds of isolation, but it is one of the easiest ways to add some degree of normality into our current circumstance, and what better companion than a watch to ground your days in motivation? Strap a beautiful piece to your wrist and you may just find yourself with a smile on your face, each time you look down to appreciate its functional beauty (and keep track of the hours). What are you waiting for? Ahead, we’ve rounded up our favourite picks of the latest luxury watches for the month:

Gucci Grip

Gucci’s foray into the world of high watchmaking included the debut of its first proprietary calibres including the Gucci Grip, a quartz-powered timepiece taken to new heights with mechanical movement in 18-karat white-gold and yellow-gold cases. Available in 38, 35 and 27mm sizes, the timepiece takes inspiration from the world of skateboarding—with a streamlined design that fits snugly around the wrist in the same way a rider’s sneakers stick to the grip tape on a skateboard. Its stainless steel face presents three windows to display the hour, time and date, complete with a matching interchangeable bracelet with engraved interlocking Gs.

Longines Legend Diver Watch

First created in the early ‘60s, the Longines Legend Diver’s timeless design gets an update with luminous hands, hour markers and Arabic numerals enhanced with Super-LumiNova rectangles for optimum visibility. Like the original model, its 42mm case back is decorated with an embossed emblem of a diver and is water-resistant to 300 metres. While its brown leather strap matches the colour of the dial, the timepiece features a self-winding mechanical movement in the new L888.5 calibre and comes with a five-year warranty.

Chanel Monsieur: Superleggera Edition

Chanel adds a new chapter to its story of men’s watches with the Monsieur Superleggera Edition watch, which combines the sporty elegance of its J12 Superleggera and the high-tech sophistication of the Monsieur, the house’s first watch for men. The sleek timepiece is powered by Calibre 1 and features two integrated complications: an instant jumping hour and a 240-degree retrograde minute. Housed in a matte black 42mm case, its unique features extend to a guilloche dial with black nickel finish and a nylon strap lined with bright red calfskin.

Panerai Radiomir Eilean

Panerai’s Radiomir Eilean brings together the lineage of two iconic 1936 designs: the Radiomir with its large cushion-shaped steel case and luminescent numerals, devised to support marine missions; and the Eilean yacht, which sailed the seas of Europe and the Caribbean for decades before falling into disrepair in the early 21st century. In 2006, Panerai acquired the yacht and restored it to splendour.

Combining the hallmark features of the Radiomir with the aesthetic lineage of Eilean, the Radiomir Eilean features a 45mm case in patina steel with a dragon engraving to reflect the one found on the boat’s hull. Its brown finish evokes the teak deck of the yacht, while the inside features vintage-style golden hands, glowing numerals, and hand-wound movement like the earlier models of the Radiomir. Only 449 pieces of the watch are available a year, and this year’s release coincides with the Eilean’s arrival in Portofino in celebration of Italianità.

Bvlgari Bvlgari Black

Another timeless creation, Bvlgari Bvlgari––better known by BB––was first launched 45 years ago, inspired by the design of ancient Roman coins. Two new models in total-black shades are introduced for the summer in 41mm and 33mm sizes, in the model’s instantly recognisable circular bezel engraved with its BB engraving. The dial features silver hour markers and hands, alongside a black-on-black date window at three o’clock. An exhibition caseback is seen upon a flip of the face, to reveal its automatic calibre inside. In contrast to the leather or rubber straps of its other models, the latest BB comes with an integrated DLC-coated bracelet with a two-piece link.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli

Roger Dubuis‘ latest innovation emerges from an exclusive collaboration with Italian motorsport performance pioneer Pirelli: to craft a fully versatile hyper horology timepiece made out of tyre rubber. The latest interpretation of the Excalibur Spider collection finds itself with interchangeable elements inspired by the motorsport pitstop, from strap to crown to bezel, that can be switched from its standard black colourway to additional red, blue or white options––all with a simple click. Housed in a 45mm titanium case, the bold Excalibur Spider Pirelli also features the brand’s first automatic skeleton, along with a three o’clock crown flanked by stylised guards, and a rotating 60-minute bezel.
