LVMH Watch Week 2021: Our favourite timepieces from Bvlgari, Hublot, and Zenith

Last week, LVMH launched its second iteration of Watch Week, and while the event took place virtually due to obvious reasons, its three exhibitors—Bvlgari, Hublot, and Zenith (with the exception of Tag Heuer)—has managed to seamlessly unveil their 2021 offerings. From updated favourites to new artistic collaborations, here are some of the coolest novelties to note:

Hublot Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami

Aside from the innovative Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire, one of Hublot’s most exciting announcements is its collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Not one to shy away from artistic partnerships (the brand has teamed up with Chinese photographer Chen Man, French sculptor Richard Orlinski, Swiss designer Maxime Buchi and more in the past), Hublot is definitely amping up the fun factor this round with its Classic Fusion.

Instead of printing Murakami’s colourful and cheery motif that we’re all familiar with, the brand gave the artist’s signature print a cool and edgy take via its well-loved All Black watch. Crafted from a total of 563 brilliant-cut black diamonds, the smiling flower dial features “petals” that spin thanks to the ball-bearing system, while the center is set on a sapphire glass that gives it a 3D-look. The timepiece is finished off with a ceramic case and rubber straps.

Bvlgari Divas’ Dream Peacock

Bvlgari has launched not one but three new Divas’ Dream watches that highlight the peacock motif in different ways—the Divas’ Dream Peacock Dischi, the Divas’ Dream Peacock Diamonds, and the Divas’ Dream Peacock Tourbillon Luimière.

The first makes full use of the peacock feather marquetry on its dial (the brand sorted through almost 500 feathers to get the perfect combination), and it’s powered by the in-house caliber BVL 308 movement; the second, a 7.56-carat diamond-encrusted bracelet watch with a hand-painted peacock motif on its dial; and the third, a skeleton watch that’s laser-cut using the cloisonné technique, featuring fan-shaped peacock feather marquetry and snow-pavé set diamonds. They’re truly works of art.

Zenith Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Silver

Another novelty on our radar? The Zenith Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Silver. A limited-edition piece, the watch fuses its archival Pilot aesthetic with inspiration derived from vintage aircraft design.

Although the overall look, size, and movement remain the same, for the first time ever, the Zenith Pilot is introduced in a sterling silver case and dial, with riveted details and a satin-brushed surface adding to its shine. To complete the aviator look, the brown calfskin leather strap that comes with a rivet and silver pin buckle references vintage pilot helmets.

Bvlgari Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon

All eyes (and ears) are on the Bvlgari Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon this year, as the brand introduces its “Masterpiece of Sound” within the Octo collection. The timepiece combines a tourbillon with a three-hammer chime, housed in a titanium case that ensures the clearest diffusion of sound. The result? A melodic sequence that plays the note C for the hours, the mid-re-C notes for the quarters, and the mid note for the minutes. Completely manufactured in-house, its brand new, manually-wound Caliber BVL428 is crafted using 432 parts.

Zenith Defy 21 Urban Jungle

The fastest chronograph in the world is introduced in a new colourway this year, and we’re all for it. Dubbed the Urban Jungle, Zenith’s Defy 21 timepiece now comes in a khaki green hue, and the earthy tone on the case extends to the caseback and the Cordura-effect strap. The El-Primero 9004 movement can be seen through the matte silver and black skeletonised dial, equipped with a timing capability of 1/1000th of a second, and two escapements for the watch and for the chronograph.
