The new Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire is truly a work of art

Hublot’s repertoire of combining cutting-edge materials (manufactured sapphire) with haute horlogerie knows no boundaries. The watchmaking brand has debuted renowned watches for years now, from timepieces in primary colours (Spirit of Big Bang Yellow Sapphire) to the completely transparent Big Bang MP-11 Power Reserve 14 Days Sapphire.

Most recently, Hublot launched its latest horological innovation at LVMH Watch Week—a stunner that has marked a few firsts for the brand. The Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire is a reinterpretation of the Big Bang Sapphire Tourbillon, but in a new orange shade (a world first for a through-tinted sapphire) that was brought to life by adroitly incorporating titanium and chromium in the manufacturing process.

The Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire also has a brand new tourbillon movement at the heart: a self-winding system equipped with ceramic ball bearings and a minimum power reserve of 72 hours. What’s unique about this movement is the visible micro-rotor from the dial side—a complex feat for designers that required meticulous reconstruction of the movement. With the micro-rotor set at 12 o’clock, the perpetual movements reflect the rotation of the tourbillon (positioned in perfect symmetry at six o’clock).

But that’s not all the sapphire that has been incorporated in this watch. Yet another first for Hublot, the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire has three sapphire bridges—a barrel bridge, an automatic bridge, and a tourbillon barrette. The skeleton work’s exquisite effect is highlighted by the open-worked and sandblasted platinum, while the tourbillon cage at six o’clock lends a glimpse into the watch’s mechanical heart.

Limited to only 50 pieces, the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire comes with a transparent orange rubber strap with a lined relief— a patented express One Click interchangeability system with a titanium deployant buckle.
