Lucky Charm: Dior Joaillerie’s Rose des Vents

Christian Dior’s childhood home, Villa Les Rhumbs in Granville, Normandy, was so named, after a wind rose divided into 32 rhumbs, a pattern found as a mosaic floor decoration at one of the villa’s entrances. It was also here that Monsieur Dior’s love for flowers, roses in particular, took root.

With that in mind, Victoire de Castellane, Dior Joaillerie’s creative director set about to create the brand’s latest jewellery collection, the Rose des Vents. “I wanted to start from the idea of a little motif pendant. And what is more metaphorical than a medallion?” says de Castellane. “A symbol of travel, in it you find echoes of Christian Dior’s star and the idea of the good-luck charm, but also the rose, his favourite flower.

Available in yellow and rose gold, the Rose des Vents collection features a medallion in lapis lazuli, turquoise, mother-of-pearl or pink opal, with a hardstone face on one side, and a wind rose on the other.

“Rose des vents is a metaphor for creation,” explains Victoire de Castellane. “Creating is about searching, turning things over, and then finding ones cardinal point and setting off on a journey.”
