Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection 2021 spurs cinematic imagination through a fantastical vision of nature

Starting Tuesday, the Cannes Film Festival will be back in full force as celebrities, movie lovers and film industry insiders alike anticipate the unveiling of the best films from all around the world. For those hitting the red carpet, Chopard will also be launching an exclusive Haute Joaillerie collection entitled ‘Paradise’ as part of their annual collaboration with the film festival.

The Swiss luxury house has been an official partner of the prestigious film event since 1988, crafting the legendary Palme d’Or award in their Geneva workshops. In 2007, they debuted the first annual Red Carpet Collection as an anthem to femininity and glamour in a creative expression of traditional craftsmanship. Stars who’ve graced the red carpet adorned in pieces from their exclusive collections include Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Freida Pinto, Zhang Ziyi, and Fan Bing Bing.

For the 2021 collection, Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele draws inspiration from places of lush flora and fauna––both mythical and real. Imbued with a baroque spirit, precious gemstones and rich hues permeate the pieces of ‘Paradise’ to reveal Scheufele’s dreamy imagination of a fantasy world where anything is possible. The theme of nature is also a reminder of Chopard’s renowned commitment to the environment. The house was the first to use a 100 per cent ethical gold supply chain in 2018, working with Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC)-certified suppliers to source their jewels and gemstones.

Among the creations is a stunning double necklace. It centres a brilliant 30.68 carat diamond against two radiant halos of interlacing yellow diamonds that circle the neck in a choker while the other adorns the decolletage. Crystalline waters of the sea are expressed through diamonds briolettes and brilliants set to create the impression of waves on white-gold and titanium ‘Water’ earrings, alongside a ‘Dolphins’ ring cradled by ripples of sapphires and dancing diamond creatures around a 59-carat oval tanzanite.

Inspired by a vision of the Garden of Eden, floral and foliage motifs are also translated through precious stones to light up different parts of the body: A leaf shape-pendant highlights the décolletage on a delicate tsavorite sautoir necklace, while a timepiece glimmers in 18-carat white gold entirely set with flowers made out of pink sapphires and diamonds. There’s also a bracelet embellished with garnets, tsavorites and tourmalines in the form of a colourful graphic central motif evoking tropical flora.
