Following the success of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and The World’s 50 Best Bars, 50 Best has unveiled the debut of The World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2023. The inaugural awards ceremony took place in London’s Guildhall last night (or early this morning, depending where you’re from)—marking the brand’s first global launch since 2009.

The new list features hotels from 35 destinations across six continents, based on the votes of 580 well-travelled industry experts—all of whom come from the hotel and travel industry and were  handpicked by the Academy Chair across nine regions internationally. This year’s electorate maintains a 50-50 gender balance and includes hoteliers, travel journalists, and qualified luxury travellers.

Nearly half of the list (21, to be exact) is located in Europe, including four in London: Claridge’s (No.16), The Connaught (No.22), NoMad London (No.46) and The Savoy (No.47). Notably, it’s Passalacqua in Moltrasia, Italy that takes the crown for the first time ever—featuring just 24 rooms in an 18th-century villa. The newly minted World’s Best Hotel in 2023 is lauded for its fine Italian craftsmanship, “formidable staff and breathtaking location.”

Meanwhile, Asia wins big with a report card that accounts for four out of the five best hotels on the list. Hong Kong’s Rosewood and The Upper House take the runner up and No.4 spots, respectively. Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River comes in at No.3, whilst Aman Tokyo rounds off the top five.

Take a look at the top 10 in pictures below and keep scrolling to discover the full list.
