Of feasts and rituals

Nestled on the pristine Nusa Dua beach in the southern part of Bali, The St. Regis Bali Resort stands among the top of the bucket list for many luxury travellers visiting the popular Indonesian island. Marrying the St. Regis brand’s Fifth Avenue glamour with world-class Balinese hospitality, it’s no wonder why the prestigious resort is a popular pick for those seeking exceptional service.

View of the resort from the lobby.

From the moment guests step into the lobby, the concierge is ever-ready to extend a warm welcome with a refreshing cooler and cold towel to beat the humidity. Upon checking in, captivating views of the palm-lined Fire Garden leading all the way to the beach will inspire awe as you find your way to your accommodation. Designed by the renowned Bill Bensley, this unique landscape is inspired by the Balinese concept of ‘Nyegara Gunung’, which means “from the mountain to the sea”.

The one-bedroom Strand Villa features a plunge pool and garden patio leading to the beach.

Speaking of the sea, all of the resort’s 124 luxury suites, villas and residences are located just a short walk away from the Indian Ocean. But if you seek direct access to the beach with your own designated sun beds, you’ll do well to book the Strand Villa. Featuring 604 square metres of indoor and outdoor living space, the one-bedroom villa boasts its own plunge pool and cabana with an adjoining lush garden patio facing the pristine Nusa Dua beach.

Inside, it affords an expansive living and dining area, a kitchenette and mini bar, a bedroom fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets, and an elegant marble bathroom with an oversized tub. Balinese craftsmanship features heavily all around, from the traditional wooden furniture to the colourful printed textiles that complement the surrounding tropical oasis.

Opulent furnishings and Balinese decor adorn the one-bedroom Strand Villa.

The icing on the cake is the St Regis’ Signature Butler Service. Whether you need help packing or unpacking your luggage, getting a wake up call with a cup of coffee ready on the table, drawing a warm bath, or pressing your garments, the St. Regis Butler is at your beck and call 24 hours a day. This is just one of the hallmarks of the brand among other rituals inherited from the founding Astor family, who were famous for hosting lavish affairs with esteemed luminaries.

Paying homage to the Astors’ legacy, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in Asia Pacific launched the ‘House of Celebration’ campaign across its properties this year—presenting unique seasonal experiences alongside signature rituals. The theme for summer (5 July to 31 August) is A Celebration of Place with a focus on bespoke menus that highlight local cuisine. On top of the lavish accommodation and service, guests can look forward to the following offerings at The St. Regis Bali Resort this season.

An authentic Balinese dinner at Dulang

Feast like royalty at Dulang with the Exquisite Journey Menu that’s inspired by the Indonesian rijsttafel. Meaning “rice table”, this authentic Balinese meal offers a parade of local small plates curated by Executive Chef Agung Gede. The dining experience is accompanied by Rindik (a traditional Balinese musical instrument) and cultural dance performances.

The Exquisite Journey Menu starts from IDR960,000 per person.

A Bloody Mary flight at The St. Regis Bar

The Bloody Mary Ritual has been tied to St. Regis since the cocktail’s creation at the original King Cole Bar in New York in 1934. In honour of this, The St. Regis Bar invites guests to sample a special Bloody Mary Flight featuring recipes from four different St. Regis hotels around the world, including New York’s Red Snapper, Bali’s Bali Mary, Bora Bora’s Bora Mary, and Singapore’s Chilli Padi Mary. Alternatively, the bar will also be featuring innovative cocktails that reflect the vibrant stories of New York’s five boroughs.

The Art of Sabrage Masterclass at The St. Regis Bar

Another experience that distinguishes the St. Regis brand is the timeless Art of Sabrage. This ritual dates back over 200 years ago to the battles of Napoleon Bonaparte, who famously opened a bottle of champagne with his saber regardless of victory or defeat. Guests can witness this iconic spectacle during the resort’s Evening Ritual, or attempt the sabrage by joining a masterclass The St. Regis Bar. The reward? A sparkling glass of bubbly at sunset!

Aside from these limited-time experiences, The St Regis Bali Resort will introduce more exciting activations in the seasons to come—including A Celebration of Culture for Autumn (6 September to 30 November 2023) and A Celebration of Time for Winter (6 December 2023 to 29 February 2024).
