What does quality time with your family look like to you? For Benjamin Yong and Elizabeth Lee-Yong—who juggle business, travel and family on a daily—quality time doesn’t have to be long or somewhere far. “As long as the whole family is mentally and physically present together, that moment in time is priceless,” Elizabeth shares.

With that in mind, we planned a short family staycation for the couple and their two children, Blake and Baylee, at the prestigious Crockfords at Resorts World Genting. As still the one and only hotel in Malaysia to receive the 5-star rating by the Forbes Travel Guide for five consecutive years from 2019 to 2023, there are plenty of things for the whole family to see, taste, and explore in and around the property.

Watch the video above for the highlights of the trip and follow along our itinerary below for ideas on what you can do during a family holiday in the highlands at Crockfords.

DAY ONE

4PM: Check-in at Crockfords

Our staycation started with a late afternoon check-in at Crockfords, after the kids finished their day at school. Upon arrival, we were all warmly greeted by the hotel receptionist and served welcome drinks at the elegant British-inspired lobby. Before long, Elizabeth and her family were whisked away into the Executive Suite (Gym) room to freshen up before the exciting activities ahead.

Spanning 1,800 square feet, the well-appointed suite features a high-end Italian gym system on top of standard room amenities including a king-sized bed with plush 300-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens, a Nespresso machine, mini bar, and a 55-inch full HD TV. Meanwhile, the luxurious marble bathroom is equipped with premium toiletries, a bathtub, and an in-room steam bath. While all of these luxuries would tempt any parent to stay in and unwind, a family holiday calls for fun and adventure—so it wasn’t long before we got out of our rooms to explore.

5PM: Explore Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park

One of the best things about staying at Crockfords is its close proximity to First World Plaza and SkyAvenue, a mega lifestyle and retail hub with a wide range of restaurants, fashion outlets, entertainment venues, and attractions. Of course, you can’t miss the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, which boasts more than 20 rides for everyone in the family!

We started our exploration on the Soaring Ships to get an aerial view of the theme park—great for photo opportunities and to spot which rides to try next! To name a few, there’s the Loop de Loop miniature track for young children; the Tea Cups to spin yourself silly; the Space Cadets, where riders can experience controllable flying motions; and the classic Royal Carousel with carved horses and chariots for the whole family to ride on together.

7.30PM: Dinner at Crockfords Club

All the excitement and thrill at the theme park worked up quite the appetite for dinner. Thankfully, Crockfords offers just the spot for a hearty meal that’s only steps away from the family’s suite: Crockfords Club. Located on the third floor of the hotel, the club and lounge is home to the FUHU pop-up dining restaurant which serves contemporary Asian fine-dining cuisine.

Decked in beautiful chinoiserie with live music performances to boot, the restaurant sets the scene for an elegant dinner to loosen up after a long day. After indulging in dishes such as the FUHU Miso Cod Fish Taco, Cantonese Style Crispy Lemon Chicken, and Crispy Wasabi Prawns, it was time to retreat to our rooms for a good night’s sleep.

DAY TWO

8.30AM: In-room breakfast at Crockfords

The next morning, the family was treated to in-room breakfast service courtesy of the hotel’s culinary team. Name a better way to start the day than a wholesome breakfast with the family in the comfort of a spacious suite—without even having to change out of pyjamas! Needless to say, both parents and their children contentedly noshed away on their signature lobster nasi lemak, classic English breakfast, a deluxe dim sum set, and waffles served with coffee, tea and juice.

Alternatively, guests may opt for breakfast at Crockfords Cafe at the lobby, which offers a main dish of your choice supplemented by a semi-buffet spread.

11AM: Family day out at Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park

Fuelled up with the most important meal of the day, we then headed out to the popular Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park to discover its family-friendly rides and attractions, shopping and entertainment offerings. The theme park spans nine movie and adventure-themed worlds, incorporating a mix of original and familiar Intellectual Properties (IPs), namely Andromeda Base, Eagle Mountain, Central Park, Studio Plaza, Epic, Ice Age, Rio, Liberty Lane, and Robots Rivet Town.

Some of the thrilling rides we went on include the Acorn Adventure roller coaster, featuring epic twists and turns around an icy waterfall; and Samba Gliders, offering bird’s-eye views from 65 feet above the ground. On the other hand, Independence Day: Defiance takes visitors on a fascinating 3D space endeavour, whereas Night at the Museum: Midnight Mayhem promises an interactive ride with a family-friendly competition on who can best defend the museum from havoc.

There’s a variety of dining options around the park too, so guests can easily stop for a bite in between attractions. If you or your child shares Blake’s affinity for games, don’t forget to stop by Asteroid Arcade at Central Plaza to try your luck at winning a prize!

4PM: Learn about dinosaurs at Jurassic’s Research Centre

Finally, we rounded off the family holiday with a visit to the Jurassic’s Research Centre at Ripley’s Adventureland. Here, Baylee impressed everyone with his knowledge about these extinct reptiles as we (adults) brushed up on our dinosaur lexicon—you learn something new every day!

After two days of quality time together, it was time for the family to head home with fond new memories. But knowing that a lavish stay at Crockfords and many more experiences await at Resorts World Genting less than an hour’s drive away from Kuala Lumpur, it’s only a matter of time before they return for their next family getaway.
