Celebrities share what they’ll look like after using FaceApp’s new ageing filter

It felt like just yesterday when we were all obsessed with using the Baby filter on Snapchat. That’s not the case anymore because there’s a new one in (cyber) town and it does the opposite of making your face cute and adorable.

FaceApp is a free mobile application developed by a Russian team and it was first introduced back in 2017. Before today, the app was best known for their gender swap feature and went viral (in a bad way) thanks to their Blackface filter controversy. It’s been two years since and the app is now back – with improvements on features like their Old Age filter!

“We developed a new technology that uses neural networks to modify a face on any photo while keeping it photorealistic. For example, it can add a smile, change gender and age, or just make you more attractive,” explains founder and CEO Yaroslav Goncharov in an interview with TechCrunch

So if you’ve ever been curious about how you would look like 20, 30 or 40 years down the line, then this app will give you a glimpse into the future. We’ve tried it and to be honest, we’re not sure whether we should laugh or cry.

Swipe below to check out which celebs have used the app to ‘age’ themselves:

Just a fair bit of warning though, in order to use the filter, you’ll need to give the app permission to access your photos. In a breakdown by Forbes, when you agree to the app’s terms, you’re also giving the company power to use the images you’ve uploaded for anything they wish. So do thread with caution.
