“Galaxy AI story has only just begun”, said TM Roh, President & Head of MX Business at Samsung and indeed it has. We have gathered here once again to join the flip side, and more with a whole lineup of nifty-swifty gadgets that were recently announced at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 on July 10. The grand bi-annual event was held in Paris, France, where the brand announced its latest products to arrive in late July 2024; which include the new foldables: Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 and wearables: Galaxy Watch7 and the first Galaxy Ultra Watch, Galaxy Buds3, Buds3 Pro and of course, the most sought-after Galaxy Ring.

Of course, Galaxy AI continues to play a pivotal role here. Back in January’s Unpacked, Samsung initiated the age of mobile AI with Galaxy AI. Now, with the debut of the new Galaxy Z series and devices, each of them utilises its highly adaptable and flexible form factor to give users diverse mobile experiences seamlessly. “We believe that AI should empower people in their daily lives and AI should adapt to you, not the other way around,” said TM Roh. He also announced that Galaxy AI will be available on 200 million Galaxy devices this year.

Below, we continue to unpack from the event.

Galaxy Ring

What else can we say other than, “It’s finally here”? After months of teasing from Samsung, the Galaxy Ring has made its official *debut and foray into smart rings. The ring is slim, lightweight, and equipped with tiny sensors designed for health monitoring 24/7. It’s the perfect accessory for wellness enthusiasts who are looking to enhance their lifestyle.

Design: The Galaxy Ring is crafted in durable Titanium, available in a choice of three scratch-resistant finishes: Titanium Gold, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Black. It’s also designed to be worn on your index finger, however with an understanding that it’s not a ‘one size fits all’, the ring does come in multiple sizes. For those who are still unsure, a free sizing kit is available that users can order first, try and then order their selected size online.

Function: In this tiny, compact device lies a myriad of cutting-edge health-tracking innovations. Embedded inside are three tiny sensors: a BioActive Sensor to track heart health, an Accelerometer to track walking and running, and an Infrared Temperature Sensor that gets regular temperature readings while you sleep. You’ll get an ultimate view of your body from the ring to your phone. With the Samsung Health app, it calculates your score based on your sleep, heart rate and steps and gives you results in the morning from the day before. It doesn’t stop with just that, the app chips in by also giving you personalised health tips on how to improve your scores.

Battery: When you’ve already assumed that a device that is on 24/7 would not last even a day, this is where you’re wrong. With just one charge, the Galaxy Ring lasts up to 7 days. Combined with a full cradle charge, it can last up to 14 days without plugging into an outlet. The ring comes in a sleek-looking charging cradle with LED lights that indicate the current charging status of Galaxy Ring, keeping you informed throughout its charging cycle.

*As of today, there are no indications of whether or when the Galaxy Ring will be available for sale in Malaysia.

Galaxy Z Fold6

Samsung has unveiled its slimmest and lightest Galaxy Z series to date. Both the foldables are made to last even longer with features enhanced to increase durability. The dual rail hinge structure is reinforced by a strengthened folding edge, enhancing its ability to distribute the impact from external forces more effectively. Not forgetting the enhanced layers on the main screen to reduce its crease effect while maintaining strength. Read on to find out more.

Design: We know we mentioned that the Fold5 is the thinnest and lightest Fold yet, but now the Z Fold6 takes the crown. Weighing at just 239g with a thickness of 5.6mm (unfolded), the Fold6 opens up to a 7.6” full rectangle display with flat edges and rounded corners. The cover screen has been increased slightly in size, now measuring 6.3” compared to its previous 6.2”.

Features: Where do we begin we even begin. With the Galaxy AI taking over the foldables, features are built to enhance your life and work quality. Circle to search allows you to simply and literally, circle anything you see and search instantly without keying in on Google. Samsung Notes now incorporates translation, summarisation, automatic formatting capabilities, and voice notes-to-text transcribing features that make it easier to create concise and well-organized meeting notes—all thanks to Note Assist. Other notable features: Sketch to Image turns your hand-drawn creations into art, Composer, Portrait Studio, Instant Slow-mo, and so much more.

Performance: Powering the Z Fold6 is the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the pinnacle of Snapdragon mobile processors with 1.6x larger vapour chamber, delivering unmatched CPU, GPU, and NPU performance for the best performance yet.

Prices for the Galaxy Z Fold6 start at RM7,299 (256GB) and are available for pre-order now, with general availability beginning on the 24th of July, 2024.

Here’s our personal favourite, the Galaxy Z Flip6. Designed with the same durability and performance as the Z Fold6, the Flip6 boasts its own array of capabilities tailored for creative minds. It introduces a variety of new customisation and creativity features, empowering you to seize every moment to the fullest.

Design: The Galaxy Z Flip6 weighs only 187g with an Enhanced Armor Aluminium Frame for extra durability. The phone boasts a unique floating design with a striking floating line and straight-edge aesthetic. It comes in a vibrant array of fun pastel colours, including familiar shades from the Flip5 like mint. The Flip6 expands the palette with an even wider range of options: mint, yellow, black, peach, Silver Shadow, and Crafted Black, offering a variety of stylish choices to suit your taste.

Camera: The camera has seen a significant upgrade in the Z Flip6. It now features a 50MP wide-angle camera, a huge improvement from the previous model’s 12MP. Additionally, it includes a brand-new 12MP ultra wide-angle lens. The new 50MP sensor supports 2x optical zoom for noise-free photos and features AI zoom for an enhanced shooting experience, allowing up to 10x zoom.

Display: Now you can do more with its enhanced 3.4” Super AMOLED FlexWindow. It grants access to Samsung Health updates and notifications, and lets you choose the next track on your music widget without ever needing to open your phone. You now have access to more widgets than ever, allowing you to check information from multiple widgets simultaneously.

Prices for the Galaxy Z Flip6 start at RM4,999 for the 256GB model. It is available for pre-order now, with general availability beginning on July 24, 2024.
