Welcome back to another BURO Weekend Guide, where we tell you all about the most exciting events around the Klang Valley. This week’s roundup is looking a little boozy as everyone is starting to ramp up our year-end celebrations and parties. The long-awaited ‘Canto-Yay: World of Smooth‘ festival is finally here! The schedule is packed—to say the least—with workshops, exhibitions, traditional games, live performances, a spicy food market, DJ sets, and more! And of course, there will be tons of Carlsberg Smooth Draught flowing to keep you refreshed. On the performance roster are Hong Kong artists 24Herbs and MC Yan, who will appear alongside local talents such as Jovynn and Mr Yang. At the spicy food market, you’ll spot some of your favourite eateries including Licky Chan, Warung Baby Guling Jenny, and Na Jie China BBQ. As for exhibitions, Huruf Kolektif’s Malaysian-Cantonese typography mini exhibit is a must-see for all graphic design enthusiasts!

The all-girl DJ collective Cherry Bomb is ready to host you for an electrifying time at Over & Above, led by headliner Sim0ne. The Scottish artist is known for her spirited sets that defy genres, promising you a night out like no other. Supporting her with sets of their own are Ashley Lau, Aidaho, Jovynn, Viene, and Raven.

3. CELEBRATE REKA:BAR’S THIRD BIRTHDAY WITH ITS REKAVERSARY SERIES

It has been a big year for Reka:Bar. From its debut at No. 41 on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024 list to a slew of guest shifts around the region, it’s hardly believable that the bar has only just reached its third anniversary having already achieved so much. If Martell and music are your muses, then clear your Saturday night for the Martell Noblige Swift Festival! This one-night-only event is a no-brainer for anyone who needs to let their hair down and get in some beats alongside some of the world’s best DJs. The lineup features internationally-renowned artists including South Korea’s DJ Soda and China’s Lizzy Wang. Also on the agenda is the Martell Noblige Swift Talent Quest Final, of which the winner will get to perform alongside Lizzy Wang later in the night. Closing out the night are none other than the Kuan siblings—Perry K, Jestinna Kuan, and Ms. Kuan—who will make sure the festivities end with a bang.

This weekend marks the start of the Monkey Shoulder’s series of takeovers at three beloved music spots in KL and PJ. Kicking off the parties is this Saturday’s session at Coffeeboy Club at The Gasket Alley. Headlining the performances are Coffeeboy Records, Lzzy and Da Funkie Junkie, who are prepared to bring you the best beats to take in. Plus, you can stay refreshed with the special menu of Monkey Shoulder cocktails (of course) as well as a limited-edition Monkey Shoulder-infused dessert.

Featuring 30 local food and beverage vendors, Maple Food Market is set to test the limits of your appetite this weekend. This three-day event puts the spotlight on meals and dishes from all around the country. Perfect as an activity for the whole family, the market also includes cooking workshops for kids and live music, so everyone will stay entertained throughout each day. Don’t forget to bring your reusable bags if you plan on doing some shopping to support small, local businesses participating!
