Pop Culture Catch-Up: ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ calling it quits after season 20 in 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sign huge deal with Netflix, and more

Hello, pop culture vultures! Here’s another round-up of the latest news in the entertainment circle you might have missed:

We will be seeing the end of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2021

On September 8, the Kardashian-Jenner family announced that the iconic KUWTK series will air its final season in 2021, making season 20 their last.

Kim Kardashian West shared on Instagram that: “It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes and numerous spin-off shows, we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years.”

Since first premiering back in 2007,  the show has had 12 spin-off shows and has taken us along the family’s journey through the good, the bad, the birth of beautiful babies, and the growth of their empire we know today. Kourtney has shared, “I will gather my thoughts and share them in a bit…” on an Instagram story, while Caytlin Jenner expressed her not knowing, saying, “Nobody called me, I heard it through the media,” in a recent interview.

We are saddened to see the show come to an end, but we are also looking forward to what the family has in store for the future—will this be the last we see of the Kardashian-Jenner family?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now in business with Netflix, but does that mean Meghan will return to acting?

The royal couple’s Hollywood plans were revealed earlier this month with a multi-year Netflix deal said to be worth about US$100 million! Following the Duke and Duchess’s renouncing of their royal titles earlier this year, the family moved to the States to start their new life in the film industry. Having already teamed up with Netflix for the documentary Raising Phoenix and considering Meghan Markle’s past as an actress, the couple is no stranger to Hollywood.

With this deal, the duo plans to create content that is informative and evokes hope, all through producing scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, features and children’s programs.

In an appearance on CNBC on September 9, Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings revealed that Meghan (known for her role in Suits) has considered appearing in a project but nothing is confirmed as, “The real focus for them is on being producers and on building that production capacity. The key thing is they’ve developed a great eye for story and we’ll be working with them on that basis.”

The official trailer for Dune has dropped

Based on the 1995 Frank Herbert science fiction novel, comes the 2020 film Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve. The otherworldly film stars Timothée Chalamet as Poul, an unlikely hero whose aristocratic family moves to a desert planet with plans of taking over it. Things quickly change as the young man soon learns he holds more power than anyone ever imagined. Shot in the stunning Wadi Rum Desert of Jordan, the action-packed film is set to premiere on December 18.

Blackpink’s upcoming Netflix documentary

K-pop is taking over Netflix with the announcement of Blackpink’s upcoming documentary Blackpink: Light Up the Sky, premiering on October 14! The documentary will follow the everyday lives of the artists, including their recording process and the group’s unforgettable performance at Coachella Festival 2019. The K-pop supergroup has recently collaborated with Selena Gomez for the song ‘Ice Cream’ and was also featured in Lady Gaga’s new bilingual song ‘Sour Candy’.

Directed by Caroline Suh, Blackpink: Light Up the Sky will join Netflix’s ever-growing library of music and concert documentaries, including Travis Scott’s Look Mom I Can Fly, Beyonce’s Homecoming, Lady Gaga’s Five Foot Two, and more.
