Jude Law to play young Dumbledore in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ sequel

A much-welcomed update on the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel has been announced, that is Warner Bros. has cast Jude Law to play a young Albus Dumbledore in the franchise. He joins returning stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston and Johnny Depp, with the film scheduled to shoot this summer.

“As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored,” says Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. president. “Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.”

10 years ago, J.K. Rowling revealed that the Hogwarts headmaster was gay in a Q&A with fans, which has led to speculation over whether the character will be openly gay in the upcoming movie. Speaking about the Fantastic Beasts sequel last year, Rowling has said that we will see Dumbledore as a young and “quite troubled man”. She also said “we’ll see him at that formative period of his life. As far as sexuality is concerned, watch this space.”

The Fantastic Beasts sequel is set for a 16 November 2018 release.
