The Aman brand has made quite a name of its own since its conception in 1988. Known for its collection of intimate retreats with luxurious comforts and warm hospitality, a stay at any of their resorts is a dream. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the place where it all began: Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand. To celebrate, the resort went through a thorough enhancement, upgrading original features and adding new facilities, giving everyone a new reason to visit the first Aman resort — and another reason to start planning your next getaway.
For starters, Amanpuri comprises 40 Thai-style Pavilions and 40 private Villas (available for rental only) within a grove of swaying coconut palms. Six of these Pavilions now come with its own private swimming pool.
The Aman Spa, which sits on a hillside amid lush vegetation, has been expanded to double its original size with six brand new treatment suites — each with a spacious treatment room, its own bathing area, private steam room, dressing room and an outdoor relaxation pavilion. As a whole, however, it now features new facilities such as hydrotherapy areas with steam rooms, traditional saunas, two infrared saunas, Jacuzzis and cold plunge pools, as well as a finishing salon for nails and hair.
Where there’s wellness, there’s also fitness and at the top of the said hill lies Amanpuri’s two-storey fitness centre. Think a glass-walled gym, a Pilates studio, a new Muay Thai studio complete with a boxing ring, yoga pavilions and a new juice bar — all accompanied by breathtaking sea views. With all these new amenities, even the resort’s Individual Wellness Immersion programs have been given an upgrade.
As dreamy as the resort sounds, it’s perfectly welcoming to children as well, especially with the new Eco-Discovery Club where kids can find a variety of both education and fun activities to do. The adults aren’t forgotten either as Amanpuri’s new programme is for all ages and is inspired by alternative sport, music and digital-tech cultures. This includes an outdoor rope-free bouldering climbing wall, a skateboarding half-pipe complete with custom-built skateboards, and The Sound Box studio where older children can record music and try their hand at being a DJ. For the foodies, a new dining space called Magnum Room is set to be unveiled at the resort soon enough.
With so much you can do at the new-and-improved Amanpuri, we doubt a weekend is enough for this getaway. For more info, visit their website.
