5 Things we love about the new Porsche Taycan, the iconic all-electric sports sedan

When it comes to electric cars built by luxury automakers in the sports car realm, there is one name that dominates the field: Taycan. Launched in 2019, the Porsche Taycan was the German automobile manufacturer’s first-ever all-electric sports car. Since its launch, three models have been released: the Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo, and Taycan Sport Turismo*. Within each model category, there are different trims and configurations that make each one unique for you. The latest edition of the Taycan was revealed just last year with upgrades to its speed, looks, and range. There’s a lot to marvel at, so let us break it down for you. Here are five of our favourite things about the latest Porsche Taycan.

CELESTIAL JADE

Before getting into the specifics, let’s talk about the Taycan Turbo S Celestial Jade. Though it isn’t necessarily a characteristic of the car, this one-off iteration made through the Porsche Sonderwunsch programme is a portrayal of just how far Porsche will go to make your dream car come true and that is one of our favourite things about them.

The Taycan Turbo S Celestial Jade sports a mesmerising blend of two Chromaflair effect paints, creating a subtle yet impactful gradient from Urban Bamboo to Shifting Carbon. The latter is a nod to Asia’s iconic precious material, jade, that is rich in tradition. On the other hand, the former represents Porsche’s spirit. Topping off the car’s character is a bespoke “LongMa” logo and special carbon-weave finish components.

GOING FAR

The new Taycan pushes boundaries even further—literally—with an increased WLTP range of up to 678 km, depending on the variant. Not only that, it charges faster at up to 320 kW, so you can get back to your drives in no time. This improvement in range comes from upgrades to the car’s drivetrain efficiency with a new rear-axle motor and higher battery capacity. Plus, all variants now come with aerodynamically optimised wheels and reduced-rolling-resistance tires, which are developed specifically for efficiency.

HOLDING STEADY

Zipping through the city streets, cruising down highways, or taking on the slopes of Genting Highlands, the Porsche Taycan is made for it all. The new Taycan models come with adaptive two-chamber air suspension, optimising driving precision, dynamics, and comfort. Meanwhile, the standard chassis allows for automatic self-levelling, which means the vehicle keeps a constant height regardless of load conditions. However, the car’s body also lowers by up to 22 mm in certain driving modes to maintain its stability and range at higher speed. Not to mention, the new Porsche Active Ride suspension system is also available as an option for the Taycan.

FROM 0 TO 100

The Porsche Taycan sets the standard for what electric sports sedans should be: sleek, speedy, and satisfying. What caught our eye the most when the new Taycan was released was its incredible increase in speed, developed in tandem with unparalleled power. From the base to the Turbo S range, we see an impressive improvement in century speed times. The Taycan can go from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, a 0.6 second reduction from its predecessor. On the other end of the spectrum, the Taycan Turbo S needs just 2.4 seconds to achieve the sprint—0.4 seconds less than the previous model, producing up to 952 PS of overboost power.

A LOOKER

It doesn’t take a car enthusiast to see that the Taycan is a car that is easy on the eyes. With the new model, you get flatter headlines, new front wings, and a three-dimensional glass-look rear light strip, adding to the car’s overall allure. Its design language emphasises the car’s width and optimises its aerodynamics, making any drive as smooth as possible from the inside out. Coupled with Porsche’s signature colours, the Taycan is bound to demand attention on and off the roads.
