5 Things to like about the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine

Some of us prefer SUVs and some of us prefer regular compact cars. For the latter, however, there’s nothing regular about the new Mercedes-Benz compact car that is the A-Class limousine. Available in two variants—the A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line—both models exude a sporty presence, inside and out. We round up some of our favourite features and aspects of the new A-Class limousine.

1. Exterior: The hatchback

Right off the bat, the most noticeable sporty element of the A-Class limousine is the hatchback—one that’s comparable to the CLA Coupe. However, having a smaller frontal area than the CLA, the new A-Class Limousine actually has the lowest aerodynamic drag of all production vehicles worldwide. That being said, rear passengers might find a slight difficulty with getting into the back seats due to the curved lines of the hatchback.

2. Storage space

On that note, rear headroom is no issue, however. There’s plenty of room for all the passengers in the car—including luggages (or other huge items for transportation). The boot has a capacity of 420 litres with a large opening at 950 mm (width).

3. A completely new MBUX

Also known as the Mercedes-Benz User Experience, it’s a multimedia system that would alter the driver’s experience for the better. From the touchscreen infotainment system to the latest driving assistance systems to an upgraded Mercedes me connectivity (like the “Hey Siri!” function), MBUX promises more than just convenience—it’s fun. And because it has artificial intelligence programmed together with it, MBUX can actually learn the driver’s (or drivers—yes, multiple) preferences and habits to automatically customise, adapt and suggest (routes, radio channels, etc) over time. The new A-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz model to feature this whole new MBUX.

4. Power and performance

Size does not matter and looks certainly do no deceive. Both variants of the new A-Class Limousine are competitive when it comes to performance and efficiency. The A 200 Progressive Line runs on a 1.4 litre engine, generating 163 hp/250 Nm with a 0-100km/h acceleration in 8.1 seconds versus the A 250 AMG Line with a 2.0 litre engine, generating 224 hp/350 Nm and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in an astounding 6.3 seconds.

5. The Keyless-Go Convenience Package

What would make it an even more suitable everyday car is this Keyless-Go Convenience Package. One of the features that fall under this is the Hands-Free Access which is essentially enabling a user to open the boot lid automatically with a swift swish of the foot under the rear bumper. It’s one of those features you never realise you needed till you have it, and after that, there’s no going back.
