Adding some tapas flair to the sprawling dining arena at The Exchange TRX is Las Meninas. Brought to you by the gourmands behind The Cinnamon Group and Valiram, Las Meninas promises an elegant Spanish dining experience with tapas, paellas, seafood, and more. You’ll spot the likes of croquetas, chorizo con papas, and pulpo a la Gallega on its tapas menu, whereas more hearty Spanish classics like paella de Marisco and paletilla de cabrito occupy the mains sections. It also has a variety of cocktails—including its Las Meninas Cava Sangria—for you to wash down your bites with.

Bringing fiery Thai staples to the Taman Paramount neighbourhood is Pad Boy. Instantly recognisable with its bright yellow façade and striking red logo, the eatery is a casual and fun space that serves made-to-order plates of pad kra pow. Ordering here is simple: choose a protein, your preferred style of egg, a type of basil, and lastly, the spice level your tastebuds can handle. Whether you opt for a maximum spice pork-based kra pow with a runny egg or a mild tofu kra pow with a crispy omelette, your plate promises to be a flavourful one.

Butter & Spice has popped up in the SS2 neighbourhood with its coffee, pastries, pizzas, and more! The sister café of Kona Bakehouse next door, this new Japanese-Italian spot promises bites that are as good as their cuppas. Its menu is a snapshot of Japanese and Italian cuisine classics and some signature dishes that blend the two. Favourites so far include its Truffle Mushroom Tacro (combining a taco and a croissant), saba fish kabayaki rice bowl, spicy crab fettuccine. From its pastry shelf, we love its parmesan paprika shio pan and kinoko red bean mochi cruffin.

At the crossroads of coffee, friendship, and music is Pucks Coffee, located on Jalan Tun H S Lee. The name Pucks is an acronym for “People United by Coffee and Kooky Souls”, which gives you a look into its playful personality dedicated to the art of coffee. Currently on a trial run, the café serves deliciously creamy cups of coffee and some hot bites—including grilled cheese sandwiches—in its laid-back and fun space filled with tastefully mismatched furniture

Smack dab in front of the beloved TMC in Lucky Garden, Bangsar is The Spot, a new café  by the minds of Chinoz. Its space features a long communal table that seats about 16 diners and both indoor and outdoor seating to suit your fancy. The pork-free menu consists of pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, pastries, and other comfort fare to enjoy alongside a brew. We recommend its iced honey milk coffee, house-cured salt beef sandwich, orange poppyseed Bundt cake, and laksa.

Tucked away in Petaling Jaya’s Tavern 13 is Finding, a pop-up coffee bar by Toothless Coffee. Though a standard cup here will do the trick at caffeinating you, its more creative drinks steal the show, including its Banoffee Pie, hojichoco, ginger tong yuen, and iced drip lemonade. Furthermore, its open, airy space makes it a great spot to kick off your day with a coffee and some bites, whether you’re in for a slow start with a book or a productive morning with your tablet.

Another new café that graced the scene this past month is Mai Kohi Coffee in Shah Alam’s Seksyen 13. The brand started as a humble mobile coffee cart three years ago, hosting pop-ups and taking up residencies at local cafés. Earlier in February, it finally opened the doors to its very own cosy coffee nook inspired by its team’s most notable café experiences. In addition to coffee drinks and non-coffee beverages, there is also a variety of bakes available for you to munch on while sipping away your day.
