Chinese New Year 2021: Yee Sang platters available for takeaway and delivery in KL

What’s Chinese New Year without the all-important tradition of lou hei— other than dressing up, ang paus, house visits and fireworks of course? It’s arguably one of the main highlights of the celebration, where everyone gathers crowding around the table with their chopsticks at the ready to toss yee sang. The trick is to toss it as high as possible—the higher it’s tossed, the more abundant the prosperity that awaits us throughout the year.

Although the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations might not be as lively as it used to be (pre-COVID times), there’s no doubt the tradition will continue at home, whether you’re tossing yee sang with your family or friends. Below, the go-to places in Kuala Lumpur to get your delectable CNY must-have:

1. The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur

Nothing beats a delicious hand-me-down recipe that has been passed down through generations, which is precisely what The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s yee sang is made from. You’ll find a base of finely chopped vegetables and sliced fresh fruits accompanied by assorted nuts, seeds and sauce—a concoction that follows the recipe from the ancestral kitchen of Puan Sri Sharon Chua, the wife of the hotel’s owner, Tan Sri Chua Ma Yu. Tip: You can opt to elevate the dish by adding slices of abalone and soft shell crab.
