Above all, it only uses halal-certified ingredients and suppliers.

3. Jao Tim

After last month’s #BuroEats’ list, we’ve been pretty attracted to local hidden gems—places where you’ll easily miss if you don’t look too carefully. Along the shop lots on Jalan Sultan is a signboard that says ‘Jao Tim’ on the first floor. It means ‘hotel’ in Cantonese and the place did indeed use to be a hotel. Now it’s a cosy cafe slash event space/art gallery that has retained some of the past elements from the 1900s. There are coffee and drinks but the food menu here is still humble—their croissants and the grilled cheese sandwich come highly recommended.

Address: 1st Floor, No. 61, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: 11am-9pm (closed on Mondays)

4. Big Canvas Cafe

Amidst the bustling KL city is a mini sanctuary of a cafe that’s highlighted by a large mural of a garden and several shades of green. The space is best described as cosy and the food fare here is nothing short of simple indulgences. Sometimes they would even host art jamming sessions.

Address: No. 34, Jalan Mutiara Raya, Taman Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: 11am-9pm (Mon, Tues, Thurs), 11am-10pm (Fri-Sun)
