We’ve listed some of the best yee sang in town as well as where to go for Chinese New Year-themed afternoon tea sessions. What’s next? The all-rounder, of course: The set menus!
1. The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur

There might not be a Chinese restaurant at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur but the hotel isn’t missing out on the festive occasion. Similar to last year, their Chinese Chef De Cuisine, Cheong Boon Fei and the Chua family have pulled together heirloom recipes to put together absolutely delicious set menus featuring handmade vegetarian “Jiao Zhi” dumplings with ginger vinegar, stir-fried prawn with golden seaweed crumb and pan-seared dried shrimp radish cake and more.
Availability: For lunch and dinner. Reserve either one of the private dining rooms (4-50 guests) or The Astor Room/Grand Ballroom (up to 800 guests).

With Executive Chinese Chef Ng Wing Lam from Hong Kong at the helm of the kitchen, you can be sure the dishes are both authentic and nostalgic. Besides a gorgeous yee sang designed in the shape of two flowers, some of our favourites from the menu include Steamed Giant Grouper with Cordyceps Flower, Stir-Fried Prawns with Hawthorn Flakes Sauce and Steamed Clay Pot Rice with Chinese Waxed Meat.

The yee sang is definitely a feast for the eyes of Instagram and guests can opt for delicacies such as lobster, geoduck and abalone to accompany it; but the ‘secret’ homemade sauce is surely an acquired taste (there’s a hint of wasabi in it). As for the three set menus offered, expect a grand example of Shanghainese cuisine with dishes such as Braised Superior Fish Maw Soup with Sea Cucumber and Steamed Bamboo Fish Shanghainese-style with preserved vegetable.

As a hotel brand that often strives to break the norms of tradition in favour of a contemporary take, Yen is taking that same spirit with its four Chinese New Year set menus and a la carte specials. Every dish is presented beautifully and though familiar, the taste is a burst of flavours—a result from the marriage of fresh ingredients and herbs.
