This is how you wear platforms like a pro

The thing with platform shoes that we love—apart from that extra four inches it adds to your stature—is that you can pull off a range of looks with each versatile type. Pull on a pair of cork wedges with a floral maxi dress and pile on fringe accessories for a hippie, festival-hopping look; or channel your inner goth in an all-black getup with thigh-high black socks and clunky black platforms.

Here are four ways to wear platforms shoes (whether heels or oxfords) and look as stylish as you are comfortable:

Go girly with retro nuances like how fashion editor Giovanna Battaglia does it. The key here is to wear separates in similar undertones: the white and tan brown pleated dress is elevated with cat-eye shades of almost the same hue and gold jewellery, while a pair of statement-making orange embellished platform sandals completes the look here beautifully.

Try: Sophia Webster ‘Amanda’ platform sandals

Now here’s how you pair a leather jacket with vibrant prints, but the cherry on the cake is the accessories—black and white lace up platforms add the unexpected factor that makes this look pretty darn edgy. And of course, a mandatory pair of aviators for a luxe vibe.

Try: Opening Ceremony black patent oxfords

For a few extra inches to your height especially when you don a pair of wide-legged culottes, slip into fringed platform heels to channel a classy, girl-about-town look.

Try: Just Cavalli fringed pumps

For the colour-loving, print-spotting girl who enjoys having fun with fashion, there’s nothing that a pair of starry, red lace ups can’t do to add pizzazz to denim overalls and a multicoloured striped sweater. Instead of taking the usual monochromatic route, colourful printed platforms will make anyone’s day happier.

Try: MSGM platform slip-on sneakers
