Capes galore on A/W 2015 runways
This season's coat trend seems to be favouring silhouettes that are oversized yet structured. Case in point: the cape coat. There's no other coat as stylish as a caped alternative, which also pairs amazingly well with skinny jeans and dresses. This season, designers have put their own spin to the cape coat — inspired by the trend of wearing coats over the shoulders, Michael Kors decided to add arm slits so the wearer can actually wave goodbye to their friends, and to fumbling awkwardly when their coats slip off. Andrew Gn and Giles added fur elements while Tommy Hilfiger opted for collegiate stripes. At Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane went the classic route of modernising a black, knee-length version for a versatile day-to-night look.
