The best of PFW SS19 day 8: Giambattista Valli’s agate pendants

Giambatista Valli cites the strong character of Yoko Ono and the magic of India as inspiration for Spring/Summer 2019—both strikingly beautiful, colourful and enigmatic entities. Their shared air of mystery is translated through gold chain-link necklaces with hanging agate pendants in dazzling rich hues. The coloured rocks are said to be one of the oldest healing stones on earth and is used for protection in certain cultures. Their variation in colour is a result of differing concentration of minerals deposited in them.

On the runway, the semi-precious gemstones are seen individually as a single statement piece in some looks, but more were seen as a pair or an ensemble with accompanying amulets. The stones are embellished on its side, fringed with gold for gilded opulence. Our favourites are the circular and teardrop shapes layered with smaller stones in colour contrasting tones, producing shapes that resemble the all-seeing eye, for added protection.
