Vans paint their sneakers in Van Gogh’s most iconic artwork

Post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh was ahead of his time. Legend has it that the artist sold only one painting in his lifetime, but garnered much success post-humously, and is now one of the most celebrated and influential artists from the 19th century.

Fast forward to the post millennium, skater sneaker brand Vans and Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam collaborated to bring a different perspective on the artist’s most lauded pieces of work: Skull, Almond Blossom and the most recognisable Sunflowers and Self-portrait. The paintings are reimagined on Vans classic sneakers (the custom footbed art mimics Van Gogh’s memorable brush strokes) and apparel. A percentage of the proceeds will go into the preservation of Vincent van Gogh’s legacy and collection of art to be accessible and enjoyed by future generations.

“We are delighted with the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection, as it ties in with our mission to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them”, said Adriaan Dönszelmann, Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum. “By uniting Van Gogh’s iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent’s art “Off The Wall” and into the world to a new audience outside the museum.”
