The making of: Dior’s D-Murrine SS18 costume jewellery

From denim pantsuits to sequinned numbers, Dior’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection was a colourful affair, and its costume jewellery is no different. Looked to the work of French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle—known for her bold use of colours in her creations, Maria Grazia Chiuri introduced equally vibrant ornaments that adorned the model’s lobes and décolletage. The glass motifs that were incorporated into necklaces, rings and earrings were handmade in Italy on the Island of Murano, and accompanying the multicoloured pieces, are charms in aged gold-tone metal such as the bee, the number eight, the clover and the star that are made in a German atelier—chosen by Monsieur Dior himself since he first introduced costume jewellery in 1955.
