Pharrell reinvents the shell

In 1969, the Adidas Superstar (or commonly known as shell toe) was the first low-top basketball shoe to be made with a full leather upper and a rubber shell toe. It became the footwear of choice for b-boys and rappers in the ’80s and was made especially famous by rap trio Run–D.M.C., who became the first hip-hop artists to sign a US$1 million endorsement deal with the sportswear company.

Following Pharrell Williams’ hugely successful Supercolour range, the man with many hats returns with the Supershell range, collaborating with contemporary artists Mr. from Japan and Todd James from New York. All three artists designed came up with shoes for two different ranges of the Supershell: the Artwork Collection (which uses the shell toe as a canvas for graphic artwork) and the Sculpted Collection (shell toes are specially-molded). The shoes are available at all adidas Originals concept stores and online. More pictures here:
