Louis Vuitton welcomes Francesca Amfitheatrof as its new artistic director of watches and jewellery

2018 will no doubt be an exciting year for Louis Vuitton, as the fashion house announced the appointment of Virgil Abloh as its menswear artistic director, and now, a new addition—Francesca Amfitheatrof as its artistic director of watches and jewellery. Born in Tokyo and trained at Central Saint Martins, the “globetrotter designer” has lived in Rome, Moscow, London and New York, and also has a background in silverware and furniture design. At the French label, she will be heading all designs of the label’s watches and jewellery, including its high jewellery line. “It is with great excitement that I join Louis Vuitton, a House I feel deeply connected to through its values of craftsmanship and travel,” says Amfitheathrof.

In a statement released to WWD, the brand also revealed the decision behind the designer’s appointment. “Amfitheatrof’s flair and creativity with precious metals as well as her experience and personal background will help shape the Louis Vuitton jewellery and watches categories in the future”. Previously the design director of Tiffany & Co. for four years, Francesca was responsible for some of the brand’s signature pieces, such as the Tiffany T line, the redesigned Return to Tiffany range, and its latest HardWear collection.
