Kenzo taps Felipe Oliveira Baptista as its new creative director

Less than a week after Humberto Leon and Carol Lim presented their final collection for Kenzo during Men’s Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020, LVMH has named Felipe Oliveira Baptista as the brand’s new creative director, effective July 1. He was previously with French sportswear brand Lacoste for eight years, from 2010 to 2018. In his new role, he will not only be overseeing the creative aspects of the brand, but also the artistic direction globally.

In an interview with WWD, Kenzo’s chief executive officer Sylvie Colin explained, “What made us choose Felipe above other candidates is the fact that he has a global artistic approach. He has a 360-degree creative vision and will oversee artistic direction globally, dealing with collections and communications.” LVMH’s Fashion Group chairman and chief executive officer Sidney Toledano also followed with a praise, saying “Felipe’s talent as a designer, his expertise in clothing and his personal attachment to diverse cultures will be valuable assets in rejuvenating the creative energy at the maison.” Along with his wife, Séverine Oliveira Baptista, the duo created his eponymous label back in 2003, although the brand has been on pause since 2014. It’s been reported that she will also be a collaborator for Kenzo, although no further details have been revealed.
