This month’s fashion headlines include the launch of the Hotel Karl capsule collection, MCM ushering in an exciting new chapter, and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week KL celebrating its fifth anniversary.

 

The Hotel Karl is a gender-neutral collection made for all

If you’re in the mood to freshen up your wardrobe, Karl Lagerfeld’s latest collection might just have what you need. Named ‘Hotel Karl’, the capsule line includes refined garments with archive-inspired emblems decorating cosy sweatsuits and crisp, relaxed basics. What makes this current series even more special is that it is undefined by gender, allowing anyone to style all the pieces however they see fit. 

The Hotel Karl is now available online and at the store in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur and Gurney Plaza, Penang.

Ahead of the AW23 season, Marc Jacobs unveils the St. Marc handbag, which has been given a new lease of life with a refined silhouette and a slew of fresh details. This includes the tiny and large top handle, as well as a convertible clutch that provides an air of elegance to its wearer. To celebrate the release of the collection, Marc Jacobs has also invited several friends of the label, such as Lila Moss, Debbie Harry, Ever Anderson, Bktherula, and Mowalola, to front the campaign shot by Chris Rhodes. More good news is that selected styles are now available in-store at Suria KLCC and Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands. 

 

MCM embarks on a new direction with a fresh brand identity and artistic direction

MCM announced a new strategic direction at the recent Milan Men’s Fashion Week, geared towards repositioning the German luxury powerhouse as a digital-driven, smart, and sustainable luxury brand. Under the new direction, heritage codes are modernised and translated into an extensive range of ready-to-wear and accessories. Sabine Brunner, who was recently appointed President of MCM Global AG, now oversees the business and reports to Sungjoo Kim, the Chairperson and Chief Visionary Officer. 

Tina Lutz Morris and Katie Chung will also work along with the two of them to lead and develop the global design and creative direction. Marie-Laure Lequain, on the other hand, has been named Chief Digital and Merchandising Officer (CDMO) and will be in charge of boosting commercial growth. “With their experience spanning several continents and multiple channel disciplines, they are a natural choice for their roles in our house in order to leverage our heritage to enrich, inspire, and empower the next generations worldwide”, said Sungjoo Kim in a statement.

Moschino is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and what better way to celebrate than with a spectacle in September? According to the Italian House, the fashion show is slated to be staged on September 21 in Milan as a tribute to Franco Moschino’s remarkable accomplishments and his enduring legacy. Following the departure of Jeremy Scott as its artistic director in March, Moschino teams up with four esteemed global stylists—Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, and Lucia Liu—to spearhead the collection, with each creating ten contemporary looks influenced by the works of Franco Moschino.

Following the release of the SS23 pre-season collection, Chanel unveils the Coco Beach collection, which follows Vivienne Rohner and her boyfriend, Theo Wenner, to the Hamptons in search of summer bliss. “It was beautiful because I have a very strong connection with the Hamptons,” says the House’s muse. In a series of intimate portraits, summer essentials like the nineties-cut swimsuits, tweed mini-dresses, and velvet jumpsuits take centre stage in white, black and pink. 

The Chanel Coco Beach 2023 collection will be available in Chanel’s KLCC boutique beginning June 15.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia hosted its annual fashion week earlier this month at Zepp KL, where local and regional fashion designers converged to reveal their latest designs. Under the theme ‘Electric is the Attitude’, the stylish weekend saw a wide range of collections that seamlessly blend luxury with sustainability, along with the launch of its all-new electric models—the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ and EQE 53 4MATIC+.

“Through this platform, we proudly honour the talented individuals in the fashion industry who not only embody the essence of luxury but also focus their design and creativity on sustainability,” says Sagree Sadiren, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia. Among the up-and-coming designers that presented their offerings were Emri Vision, Ivan Young, Fondest, Celeste Thoi and Dickson Lim.

At last, j-hope of BTS has made his debut in the latest ‘Keepall’ campaign for Louis Vuitton. The South Korean rapper-singer-songwriter-music producer is photographed in a series of stills, decked out in tailored monochromatic outfits while sporting the classic duffle bag. The multi-hyphenate is captured in dance-like form, hinting at his illustrious history and strength in choreography.

If you haven’t heard, the Keepall has been around since the 1930s and is one of the many versatile bags that could be used for a quick getaway or a far-flung adventure. Previously, artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, and Stephen Sprouse worked together with the French house to revive Maison’s classic travel companion. 

 

The Versace Foundation commits to a five-year partnership with the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Rocket Fund

Just in time for Pride month, the Versace Foundation, together with Donatella Versace and Allegra Versace, has announced its commitment to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Rocket Fund for the benefit of the LGBTQIA+ communities. The Italian fashion designer has been named Co-Chair of The Rocket Fund, and she said in a statement, “At Versace, we have always championed inclusivity and equity, and we are committed to supporting Elton and his extraordinary Foundation and their mission to end AIDS and the stigma attached to it by 2030.” 

The fundraising drive aims to raise $125 million to assist individuals who are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, including members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, as well as to address the health disparities, stigma, and discrimination that enable the infection to remain rampant.

Onitsuka Tiger joins forces with Street Fighter 6

In keeping with its mission to combine fashion with sports, as well as a legacy with innovation, Onitsuka Tiger has once again teamed up with Capcom Co., Ltd—creator of the Street Fighter series—to create a brand new pair named Endactus. A closer look reveals the Japanese label emblem on the left heel and the Street Fighter logo on the right heel of the latest model. Moreover, the shoes feature a sturdy sole with distinct outsoles, and a square toe shape, along with the Onitsuka Tiger Stripes expressed through the stitching. 

Along with the shoe release, each Street Fighter 6 player will receive the Onitsuka Tiger digital interchangeable skin, which can be worn in the video game along with the Endactus shoes. Plus, there will be a special pop-up store at Battle Hub from November 1 to November 30. 

The Endactus will be available in-store and online from June 30.

If you’re on the lookout for something stylish for the summer, head to Singapore’s ION Orchard, where Fendi unveils a pop-up store offering a swim and beachwear capsule line. The latest summer collection revisits the Italian house’s astrology collection from the 1990s, as well as the timeless codes designed by Kim Jones, Fendi’s Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear.

The updated L’XXL collection features oversized dimensions and Dream Calf leather, all while illustrating Colonna’s unconventional sense of style. Sheng Tai International teams up with Karl Lagerfeld to build a fashion tower in Malacca

The future looks bright for the Malacca Strait, as visionary developer Sheng Tai International announces the addition of Karl Lagerfeld Tower to The Sail Melaka—marking a historic milestone for the heritage city. Under the watchful eye of Dato’ Leong Sir Ley, Chairman and President of Sheng Tai International, the fashion skyscraper will house a luxury hotel and branded residence.

“Our long-term goal is to not only nurture local talent but also welcome global investments, creating a wave of opportunity and prosperity in the country. We’re delighted to have Karl Lagerfeld and their forward-looking ethos on board with our plans for the future,” Dato’ Leong said in a statement. While this remarkable initiative lays the groundwork to merge innovation and luxury, it will also serve as a testament to the city’s ambition and growth as a true fashion city in Southeast Asia.

To celebrate the big news, an exclusive event was held at the Encore theatre, with the Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, and Pier Paolo Righi, Chief Executive Officer of Karl Lagerfeld and Dato’ Leong Sir Ley in attendance.
