Chanel unveils its first digital presentation for Cruise 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic may have forced Chanel to cancel its plans for a Cruise 2021 show in Capri, but creative director Virginie Viard is adapting to change by unveiling the collection via a digital presentation. Instead of the initial island-living inspiration, the designer says: “Not only did we decide to use fabrics that we already had, but the collection, more generally, evolved towards a trip around the Mediterranean… The islands, the scent of the eucalyptus, the pink shades of the bougainvillea.” The result? A line that exudes a modern sense of ease.

Comprised of easy silhouettes in refined designs, the collection features pieces that are perfect for a vacay—long skirts can can be effortlessly transformed into strapless dresses, jackets can be layered over different separates (a bikini top, a bandeau and more) for different occasions, and the sheer numbers at the end can be styled up or down with an array of pieces worn under. Brb, we’re dreaming of our next vacay.

Paris Couture Week goes digital in July

Less than a month after the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode revealed that Paris Fashion Week will be going digital in July, it has announced that Couture Week will also be held online from July 6 to 8. The federation said, “This event will be structured around a dedicated platform. The principle of the official calendar is maintained. Each house will be represented in the form of a creative film/video. Additional content will be included in an editorialized section of the platform. All of this will be widely shared on the main international media networks.”

Men’s Fashion Week will be held from July 9 to 13, and Milan Fashion Week will be live from July 14 to 17.

Off-White skips September’s show

Following Saint Laurent’s announcement that it’ll be skipping fashion week for 2020, and Gucci’s decision to go seasonless moving forward, Off-White has revealed that it’ll be skipping the September show, but the Spring/Summer 2021 collection will still arrive in stores in February. In an interview with WWD, New Guards Group’s chief commercial officer Andrea Grilli explained that the brand’s strategy is to bring the presentation and its release as close as possible, and it’s not adopting a see-now-buy-now format. “Unfastening ourselves from the existing commercial boundaries, we grow our direct-to-consumer channels with more freedom to plan”, he added. Will more brands follow suit? Stay tuned for updates.

As stores are slowly reopening in Italy, Giorgio Armani has unveiled the face for its Made-to-Measure Spring/Summer 2020 line, and it’s none other than Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Charles Leclerc. With 3.1 million followers on Instagram, the 22 year-old is one of the most popular rising racing drivers at the moment, having won his first Italian Grand Prix late last year.

Giorgio Armani says: “Charles Leclerc is a very promising racing driver. He has achieved considerable success despite his young age, and this is an indication of his will and determination, as well as his obvious talent. He is fresh-faced and has an energetic physical presence that my Made to Measure collection enhances and matches well. A Made to Measure suit is ageless, as demonstrated by these photographs.:”

Netflix’s Next in Fashion is cancelled after one season

Sad news for Next in Fashion fans: Netflix has cancelled the fashion competition after one season. Despite the hype and the generally positive feedback surrounding the show when it aired back in early February, in an interview with Variety, host Tan France revealed that there won’t be a second instalment, although he hinted that the series could be revived elsewhere. He says, “This is a one-season show, we don’t know what will happen in the future. But it was honestly one of the proudest things I’ve ever worked on. I love the show and Alexa so much. My focus is definitely on ‘Queer Eye’ and moving forward with that.

South Korean designer Minju Kim was the show’s winner, taking home the grand prize of USD $250,000 on top of an opportunity to release her collection on online fashion retailer Net-a-Porter.
