Curb your Met Gala 2020 withdrawals with the #MetGalaChallenge

The Met Gala 2020 may be postponed for the time being, but not all hope is lost on the first Monday of May. Billy Porter and long-time organisers of The Met Gala, Vogue US having dreamed up a fun and exciting #MetGalaChallenge to curb our withdrawals. The premise is simple, recreate your favourite red carpet looks from the The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s celebratory galas and include the #MetGalaChallenge hashtag. No stranger to the Met Gala, Mindy Kaling hopped onto the Instagram challenge by hilariously emulating Jared Leto’s flaming red tunic look from 2019, mannequin head included.

Fashion fans around the world joined in, and flexed their creativity with ingenious ways recreating some of the most memorable looks the red carpet gala has seen to date. Rihanna’s Guo Pei’ dress from 2015 was reimagined using what appears to be a duvet cover. Props to the on-point colour match! From 2019’s ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, Janelle Monàe’s Christian Siriano number was remade using cardboard cut-outs, while Bella Hadid’s bejewelled Moschino dress was cleverly made from aluminium foil. In difficult times of quarantine and limited resources, it’s lovely to see how fashion fans can recreate looks with things they can find in their homes!
