Calvin Klein reboots its American Classics campaign for Fall 2017

Put 22 models in a vast Californian desert with a couple of billboards and a ladder in tow, and you’ve got Chief Creative Officer Raf Simons’ reinterpreted vision for Calvin Klein. The latest Fall 2017 advertising campaign from the brand explores a romanticized view of America (from an outsider’s perspective, naturally, given Simons and Creative Director Pieter Mulier’s heritage)—but with a twist by way of recycled images from the previous season’s campaign.

Shot by Willy Vanderperre right smack in the middle of the Californian desert, the models are clad in Calvin Klein’s 205W39NYC collection by Raf Simons—a jazzy combination of plastic coats, western wear and marching band uniforms. Spot images from Calvin Klein: American Classics campaign along with Andy Warhol’s work on the billboards in the backdrop. While you’re taking in the details, look out for a few designer denim pieces emblazoned with a patch featuring a silhouette of actress Brooke Shields. Fun fact: This was the iconic Richard Avedon image that was used for Calvin Klein Jeans’ campaign back in 1981—no better way to coalesce the brand’s past, present and future in one.
