Breaking news: Raf Simons is leaving Dior

After three and a half years of helming Christian Dior while injecting a sense of newfound modern romanticism to the house’s designs, Raf Simons is leaving his role as creative director of Dior, citing “personal reasons” according to his statement.

The recent Spring/Summer 2016 show on October 2 will be his last, and the fashion house has yet to confirm a successor although it will continue showing its collections in Paris. The Belgian designer was previously the creative director of Jil Sander while running his own label. Simons replaced Bill Gaytten as creative director of Dior in April 2012, shortly after John Galliano’s dismissal from the role. Most well-known for the fitted, iconic Bar jacket he had reworked for his debut collection at Dior along with grand sets during Paris Fashion Week (the latest being 400,000 stalks of blue Delphiniums serving as the backdrop), Simons has had a strong track record at Dior, with sales steadily growing for women’s ready-to-wear.
