Shopping looks very different today. Online platforms have condensed it into moments, often removing the need to step outside at all. Algorithms recommend, carts fill, parcels arrive. But fashion resists that kind of compression. It lives in the feel of fabric, the precision of a cut, the atmosphere a space creates. These are the qualities that keep brick-and-mortar spaces relevant, even in a digital-first world.
For Club21, this shift is an opportunity to rethink what retail can be: a space where conversation, creativity, and regional expression thrive. Its newest concept, Club21 Lab, embodies that vision. Situated at the Shoppes at Four Seasons Place KL, the multi-brand destination hosts over 20 brands, uniting emerging Asian labels from Thailand and South Korea with homegrown Malaysian names. For the first time, Club21 opens its doors to local brands, underlining its commitment to championing regional talent.
Club21 Lab breaks free from traditional luxury retail norms. Instead of conventional layouts, the space is organised into a series of pocket concepts that encourage visitors to explore fashion as a curated journey rather than ticking off a checklist. Every corner is intentionally photogenic, each with its own mood and visual language.
At the heart of the space is the ‘Asia Talents’ section, instantly recognisable by its butterfly installations in a spectrum of colours and sizes. Here, Asian designers are celebrated, with local labels like Anaabu, Shals, Ghostboy, All Love, and Ayaaya Studios taking prominence.
A softer, more playful narrative unfolds at the ‘Hearts Store’, where accessories and silhouettes are youthful and expressive. Think Margesherwood bags, Comme des Garçons shoes and dresses from Stolen Stores and Shushu/Tong.
For resort-ready pieces, the ‘Beach Club’ presents a curated selection for sunny days, from Marmoris flip-flops and Jacquemus bucket hats to Moaa sundresses and T-shirts from Nineties Design. A more casual rhythm continues at ‘Grab & Go’, where everyday staples from Mardi Mercredi and Human Made make city dressing effortless.
The ‘Denim Bar’ rounds out the experience with a laid-back, pizza-shop energy, showcasing denim from rag & bone and Rest & Recreation. Here’s a glimpse of the launch event:
