As we all become more aware of the environmental impact of our clothes, brands, retailers and designers are pivoting to adapt a slower fashion philosophy. The latest luxury house to step up in their commitment towards sustainability is Salvatore Ferragamo, with the introduction of 'Salvatore Ferragamo Icon-Up': a limited-edition, eco-friendly collection that combines innovative circularity principles and material reuse with brand heritage and DNA.

Launched last week on Farfetch.com, the one-of-a-kind collection sees the Italian fashion house breathe new life to house icons, such as the Varina and Vara shoes, by utilising existing materials and products from their inventory that might've otherwise gone used. Deadstock shoes, accessories and trademark printed silks are repurposed and upcycled into unique new designs that have each been reimagined by the creative team, then manufactured by highly specialised local artisans and Manovia craftspeople, the brand's historic in-house prototyping division.

In addition to capturing the essence of Made in Italy, 'Icon-Up' epitomises circular creativity in its celebration of colours and prints. From a refashioned Tiger print silk––drawn from the current exhibition at Salvatore Ferragamo's Museum in Florence––to the Gancini print, shoes and belts arrive in striking combinations of designs, and adorned with signature Vara bows upcycled from printed silk in a variety of vibrant shades.

It doesn't end there: Completing the eco-friendly model is the collection's carefully considered packaging, which includes a reusable printed drawstring bag upcycled out of Ferragamo's stock, alongside new Favini Remake paper boxes made out of an innovative blend of post-consumer waste pulp and pre-consumer leather waste.

Salvatore Ferragamo's 'Icon-Up' is available now exclusively on Farfetch.com as part of the online retailer's ‘Positively Conscious’ edit of sustainable fashion.
